Kuipers may stay at Hull-from the argus

Kuipers may stay at Hull
by Andy Naylor

Former Albion boss Peter Taylor could make a permanent bid for Michel Kuipers.

The Dutchman has been reunited with Taylor at Hull on a month's loan after losing out to Ben Roberts in the battle to be the Seagulls No. 1.

Kuipers makes his debut for the Tigers in the reserves against Sheffield Wednesday tonight and Taylor has not ruled out the possibility of trying to keep him for good.

"At the moment I have definitely taken him just for a month as cover for Alan Fettis, who is injured, but I rate Michel it's as simple as that," revealed Taylor.

"If he comes and plays and does well then who knows?

"I like him. He is a dedicated goalkeeper and he had a tremendous season when I was at Brighton. If his kicking could be tidied up he would be in the top league."

Ross Flitney, Kuipers' 19-year-old replacement on a month's loan from Fulham, makes his debut for Albion tonight.

The former Arsenal schoolboy features for the reserves in their first home game of the season against old rivals Crystal Palace in a Pontin's Holiday Cup group fixture at Woodside Road, Worthing (7pm).

Simon Rodger is expected to resume training today after missing the last two matches with a groin injury.

Paul Watson was also sidelined from the games against Luton and Plymouth with a problem which has now been diagnosed as torn fibres in foot arch tendons.

Boss Steve Coppell said: "It is both feet, which is very unusual.

"He's had injections, so it's just a question of waiting to see now how it settles down."

Coppell has not ruled Watson out of Saturday's clash against Swindon at Withdean.

"He's a great pro and if there is any chance he'll be there. Saturday is the first of seven games in 24 days, so I think we are going to need everyone during that period.

"It's going to be demanding that's for sure. There isn't a club in the Second Division with massive depth in their squad, so everyone is vulnerable."

Robbie Pethick, who was left out on the bench Plymouth, plays for the reserves tonight.

Albion Reserves: Flitney, El-Abd, Virgo, Pethick, Bridle, Piercy, Wilkinson, Hammond, Lee, McPhee, Robinson, May, B.Watson, Breach, Fillery, Elphick, Piper.

This is all from Taylor's perspective. Still not sure whether SC would want him to go permanently.

How much do you reckon we could look to get for him? £250,000? Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see him go any more than anyone else. But do you not think cash from his sale could go towards areas of the team in more need of strengthening, like the left wing?

Just a thought.

£250,000 sounds right for a keeper of his quality, but the money wont go on team strengthening, ever heard of the money eating machine that is Falmer

And if Ben Roberts gets injured or earns himself a yellow card too many, we will be screwed.

£250K for Kuipers in the current market. I think somebody needs to visit planet earth again.

Maybe the thing to do would be sell him for less but with a huge add-on if Hull get promoted (which they probably will).

Having said all that, I hope we don't sell him. He's a good keeper.

We would be foolish to get rid of him permanently, although I can see the argument for loaning him on an instant recall month by month.

£100,000 top whack at the moment, I would say.

Kuipers will end up playing second fiddle to Alan Fettis, one of the best keepers in the Nationwide IMHO. Frankly, why be a reserve in a middling Div 3 club when you could be starting for a potential Div 2 Champions side ?

I doubt that a transer fee would realise more that 50K at the most. A mistake by both parties if it happens. I mean, where would you prefer to live ? Some out of the way northern backwater with high unemployment or a thriving and happening City ?

Hull have plenty of money, so ask for £250k. If they pay it, we're laughing, and if they don't, we keep the FDM.

Everyone's a winner.

I’d be gutted if Kuipers left. What happened to all the preseason talk about having two excellent keepers bringing the best out of each other because of the completion to be in the side?
