Kuipers Loaned Out To Save Money...

I saw Simon (Rodger) yesterday. Amongst other things, we discussed the Kuipers situation. The reason, he feels, he was loaned out was to save money. Kuipers is on quite a reasonable wedge and with Hull paying the wages, we were able to make a saving by bringing in a replacement at half the cost. Every little helps at the Albion!

So the real reason was not to give Kuipers first team experience but to keep adding to the playing pot.

This probably explains why Taylor did not play him on Saturday.

Funny,my limited contacts suggest, it is for fitness, which he is still missing, hense probably not played on Saturday.

By the way Gunter, does Mr Rodger not mind you repeating all this stuff on the net ? Just asking, but if I was telling someone stuff about my company and collegues, I am not sure I would want it all over the Internet attributed to me.

There is lots of stuff I dont post on the net from our conversations, I just thought this was relevant and he did not tell me in confidence. If he did, I would not post it.

I think it's obvious that there's money implications to the move, as I'm sure I posted elsewhere. Coppell has a limited budget to work with and he has shown he'll loan out whoever he can to save a few quid that he'll be able to use later on when needed.

Gets my support.

I fear this could be a prelude to the FDM moving on. Whats the point of him going up to Hull to sit on the bench, when he can do that down here ? Are we really THAT hard-up that we have to offload players on loan just to get their wages (or a proportion of it) off the wagebill, and draft in inexperienced youngsters as emergency cover ? Hmm.

Yeah we are - where have you been for the last 10 years? :(

Right here, for about the last 15 actually.
All I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if Hull look to make this move permanent, and as the FDM is no longer first choice, he may well fancy the move. It might make financial sense in the short term to loan him out, but I wouldn't want us to lose him permanently.

Its only a few weeks ago that SC was saying what a "nice problem" he had in that he had two excellent keepers, and was pleased that the competition for places was very healthy within the squad. Then 3 weeks later, FDM is farmed off to the subs bench at Hull.

I just hope this isn't the beginning of the end for the FDM at the Albion, thats all. He has served us superbly over the last 3 years, and I for one would be gutted to see him go.

I disagree. Whilst its clear we aren't big spenders by any stretch of the imagination I think there is money avaliable, if the player is one that Steve Coppell feels is right for the team. Take Leon Knight for instance 'QPR made me an offer and Brighton bettered it'. Take the other example of Tony Rougier where we offered him less than Brentford. Coppell clearly feels that Knight was worth using a big proporation of the budget for and Rougier wasn't (and quite right too). It also dosen't hurt to suggest we are penniliess in negotiations especially as it is now a clubs rather than a players market (unless you are talking about Chelsea).

Secondly since last season we have lost Ingimarsson, Barrett, Kitson, Zamora, Brooker, Packham?! & Beasant from the wage bill & given less money to Rodger & Blackwell, plus loaned out Marney & Wilson Davis. We have only added Knight, Henderson & Roberts and running costs are 40% cheaper in this division (quote Dick Knight Fans forum). I reckon we would find the money from somewhere if Coppell wanted someone badly enough - I just don't think he has found anyone better than what we already have. The only caveat to all this is how much Falmer has cost us.

I think its a good idea if it is a money saving ploy. Whats the point of having him here if he is nowhere near pushing Roberts for the number 1 jersey?
To say we HAD to let him go on loan is a tad short sighted, we aren't the only ones doing it after all.

All of which kind of reinforces my point, Hannibal. Obviously we're not exactly flush with money at the club, but loaning out our 2nd choice goalie to save a few quid for a few weeks, and going to the hassle of bringing in some kid from Fulham, would give the impression that we are financially crippled, which we are not.

If its for footballing reasons, to keep the FDM sharp if we need him, then fair enough (although sitting on Hulls bench is hardly going to do that). Whats the situation with reserve games ? Does he play for Hulls reserves while he's not in their first team ? Or does he kick his heels in training week-in week-out until another excursion to their bench ?

The whole thing looks pointless to me if he's not even playing for them.

I don't think we can justify having two fairly highly paid keepers just for 1 of them to warm the bench! It makes sense to loan out or sell one off, which,at the moment, looks like FDM!:(
