Is this really good news?

We lose Kirtley for a big game against Lancashire.

And, as a result of Kirtley being retained, Chapple gets to return to play for Lancashire against us in this same game.

I'm sorry, but I would have preferred to see Kirtley sent back to do the bizzo for Sussex again.

Very true but it's good news for him and hope he does well.

Also, they don't have Flintoff or Anderson so they are surely more weakened than Sussex.

As good as Sussex have played this year, they surely aren't going to catch Surrey - they are just too good with too many great players.

You've got to be happy for him.

Yes, it would have been nice to have him for the championship charge but you cannot deny him his chance at International level.

We were never going to win the championship after Lewry got injured anyway.

Well done James - it's taken them long enough to give you a chance.

Seize the day!

With McPhee getting his debut goal, Pearcy returning to fitness and 'Dirty' Kirtley finally getting a game is Eastbourne becoming the sporting capital of the universe?

Surrey are easily on top in their current game too - they picked up all five batting points on the first day. I think Sussex missed their chance by not beating them at Hove. Always next year - glad to see him get his chance finally.

If England continue to bat as they have for the first half hour, we might see James wielding the willow later on this afternoon.
