We can't just blame United and Chelsea though, we put all our eggs in one basket and then completely screwed it up. With all respect its an incredibly poor run of events.
Well we don't know 100% how many baskets we are shovelling eggs into...

But - I broadly agree that IF we didn't do enough to keep RdZ just because we thought McKenna was in the bag.... then we really have blundered.

They will almost certainly struggle as just over a year ago they were a league one club. They can't just spend to stay in the division due to P&SR. There is every likelihood if he stays at Ipswich, he'll have a relegation on his cv. I know it didn't seem to hurt Kompany but he also has some titles on his with Anderlecht!! I think we are by far a better option however it does seem that he is going to stay.
Err - he absolutely didn't. His two seasons saw Anderlecht finish 4th and then 3rd - which by their standards are disastrous showings.

It was 10 days between Potter and De Zerbi, it has now been 10 days, it was 7 days between Hughton and Potter. I think the manager market is crap at the moment. I think we should go back to Roberto and see what he wants.
Yes. But there was a bit more urgency for both of those - as we were in the middle of seasons with matches and training to be done.

Sure - wrapping this up soon is important but Transfer window doesn't even open for a fortnight, and pre season with the players is a month away. .

The only manager that took more than 10 days to appoint under Bloom, was Hyypia...

I think we know what Roberto wants. A big say in transfers, a push back against Albion's model and public come get me with the elite clubs . It's a no no. Thats why he didn't get very far with Chelsea.

We'll see what is paper talk and what isn't. I hope what you are saying is right, but I can't see it, with the options out there, unless we push the boat out and got for a real big name.

One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about supporting Brighton, is that the club have tended to be fast learners.

As much as they have been unable to find a way to accommodate RDZ, this will have been their first experience of a properly ambitious coach, and they’ll learn from it.

It would be incredibly un-Brighton to go for a “big name”, and in some respects I’d be disappointed if that were the road we were to go down, but I trust the club’s decision making. What sort of big name did you have in mind?

Giannis Andrianopoulos is quite a big name.

Konstantinos Anyfantakis is another one.

I fear I’ve veered off into facetiousness, sorry. At the end of the day, the unknown is always tough, but I trust in the club to reach the right answer, and if negotiations take a while then it’s our job to simply wait longer.

We've been vultures for years, signing wonderkid youngsters from clubs all over the world.

One could even argue that when we signed Potter from Swansea that's a bit "big club comes knocking".

It's the nature of the beast
And we have now become a beast.

Grrrrrrr!

(I quite like the idea. In reality it is simply business. Some people imagine you can do football without business in some sort of working class Utopia. Every club a cross between St Pauli and Forest Green Rovers, with the whiff of the partizan North tempered by the gentle inclusivity of the South. I have a lovely pot of coffee here, in case any sleepy Joes want a sniff).

Are you implying that apart from RDZ none of the Brighton managers/coaches were properly ambitious? Maybe your description should have been properly demonstrative. Anyway, as you’ve stated, let’s trust the club to come up with the right choice.

Like the pied piper, he has thrown and strop because he couldn’t get what he wanted. He has upped sticks and shuffled off. But instead of taking our children, he has instead taken our hopes and dreams.

Lots of European domestic leagues only finished yesterday - either regular season or play offs - including Italy, Spain and France. There are lots of highly talented managers out there.

This is like when you have an annoyingly good looking mate who's just split up with his girlfiend and is moping about it as if she's the only woman in the word, and he can't appreciate how attractive he is to dozens of other women he's not even met yet.

I’m sure when we employed RDZ he wasn’t the name touted by the papers and everyone “in the know” at the start. Then out the blue he was our number one target only man we had spoken to and he was here.
KM may be on our list may not. I’d guess he is somewhere as would be daft not to consider a good young manager. We may have spoken to him we may not only the few at the club know. He has a good thing at Ipswich if I was him I’d remain there no matter who came asking. He’s young and will have plenty of opportunities.

In the middle of the season when Potter replaced Hughton? I'm sure we weren't!

De Zerbi didn't play Mitoma either, until injury forced him to play Trossard as false nine and Mitoma on the wing.

The reality is that in beginning of the 22/23 season, Mitoma coming on as LWB and operating alongside Trossard on the left wing against a set of tired defenders... it was a success (and very sadly we never saw the Mitoma-Tross flank under Roberto), and we would not have changed until we started losing or had injuries.

But Potter spent the entire summer praising Mitoma and I'm 100% certain he would eventually have made the starting role in one position or another.
Potter used Mitoma as a sub for his first six games, Roberto used him as a sub for a similar amount of games. Knowing how good Mitoma is, we could see it as a bit silly now, but in a lot of ways its the optimal way to start a PL career. He's the type of lad who had to understand the tempo of the PL or he'd have wasted all his energy trying to "chase the pace" within the first 20 minutes of a game .
If you’re certain then….. 😉
I’m not, given how narrow Potters teams were.

I simply don’t agree Re RdZ, he quickly saw the potential at Liverpool - see Trossard third goal…. Chelsea home….etc., or your ‘chase the pace’ comment. I think Mitoma is more intelligent than that.
