Ok I'm not a boxing expert, but this has mismatch written all over it. This man has ended the career of Prince Naseem Hammed and has held championsips, ok he is 35 but I think he will annilate Khan on Saturday.

Fire away Steve.....

Well, it's a young upstart against a (very) good old pro. Guess it is mayches like this that make boxing exciting. Don't know who'll win (and certainly wouldn't put money on it) but I think Khan may just have a chance.
Looking forward to this one!

It's a great match. Old warrior who was one of the greats v young gun with talent but flaws, all the world and his dog will have an opinion on it, and both deserve credit for taking the fight because they both have something to lose.

Logic would say Khan will be outta there by round 3.

Wouldnt discount him winning but if he gets clocked then it's curtains

My personal belief is that, despite the fact that Barrera is, as is pointed out in every preview of the fight, 35 years old and maybe not as good as he was, going to be too good for Khan on Saturday night. The gamble that Khan's team are taking is that Barrera has nothing left, and so will be easy for Khan to pick off and so have a big name on his record.

Even if that is the case though (which I'm not convinced it is) even a faded version of a 6-time, 3-weight World Champion is leagues ahead of anyone with whom Khan has been in the ring to date, and although it was a few years ago, you only have to look at what happened the last time MAB faced a hyped-up British fighter with blurring handspeed and a slightly suspect chin and defence.

One thing Khan may have in his favour is Freddie Roach, who I regard as the best trainer in the world, and who has trained Manny Pacquiao to beat Barrera twice so knows hoow to go about doing it, of course the problem with that is that Khan is nowhere near the fighter that Pacquiao is.

Barrera has trained ferociously for this one, and is certainly not coming over to pick up a paycheck or make up the numbers. No Mexican fighter has ever won World Titles in 4 different weight divisions, and he wants to be the first, so he has a serious motivation there beyond the financial.

My prediction is that Khan will land a few decent shots early, but quickly become discouraged when he realises that Barrera isn't going to fold like many of his previous oppponents have. Barrera will use every trick in the book to slow Khan down and keep him off his rhythm, while slowly starting to pick him apart en route to a late stoppage or points victory.

Khan will probably come back better than Hamed did, of course he has youth on his side, and may well develop into a world class fighter in the next few years, but I think this is too much of a gamble too soon, although I wouldn't necessarily call it a mismatch.

Win, lose or draw it really does not matter, Khan will be nothing more than nearly man, as soon as he comes up against Prescott again or someone like him he'll just get spanked all over again, a lighter version of Audley Harrison in the making.

Don't know much about boxing, but this match seems a lose/lose fight to me.

If Khan wins, he only beat Barrera because he was at the end of his career.
If Khan loses, well, he loses.

what time is the fight? will it still be in pub hours or at silly o'clock of the am variety

The programme starts on SBO at 9pm, so I'd reckon on seeing Khan in the ring somewhere about 10:30 ish.

That's just my guess though.

Certainly not a mis match but Barrera for me, its always a shame to see boxing legends ending thier careers with a couple of poor defeats so hopefully Barrera can go on and get a 4th weight world title then retire, it still gives Kahn plenty of time to come back....hes still only 21 isnt he?
Although i agree with Frutos.....Roach is probably the best trainer in the game and knows how to beat Barrera but Kahn is certainly no Pacman!! Kahn has got speed on his side but i think Barrera has got every trick in the book and i reckon will stop Kahn in 7.

is a very fair point, i think youu've got to hand it to khan for taking the fight, people moan about him fighting nonentities ,and you certaily cant bracket barrera in that class, but that said , i dont think frank warren is a mug , and the matchmaking team will surely have detected something in barrera that suggests he is on the downward slope, i take khan to win by late stoppage.

Interesting to read all your views,

my take is Barrera will have a very poor first round as Khan looks to dominate, Second should be alot more evan as MAB begins to read Khans rytham. And the third, MAB will have Khan completly sussed and drop him twice, end of fight!

I've put £10 at 25-1 for this to happen!

Both fighters make the weight, Khan was half a pound inside, Barrera dead on after having to strip naked (having been 3oz over in his underpants).

Interesting to hear some booing being aimed at one fighter while the weigh in was happening - and it wasn't Barrera.
