He's 33, not 40 - It's a mental decision, 'rebuilding' should always be a gradual process, you certainly don't get rid of your best players for no obvious reason. And WTF does wheelie bin have any say in the decision? What a joke.

Parallels with how England football team put Beckham out to pasture when clearly he had more to offer. Ridiculous decision and smacks of their failure to manage a top talent with an edge. Far too comfy at the ECB they much prefer the dull characters

What a shit decision.... Was he an abrasive character? yeah.. was he single minded? yeah but he has ability and still was one of the better performers in the winter.

He has become a scapegoat and fall guy for a poorly managed and captained touring party. Successful teams manage big characters and make them perform to the best of their ability. Our captain and management seem to be threatened by him and have sacrificed him.

The King of Spain has spoken. Shame he will be next Test manager. Shame we can't have a Lehman, who can control a team and sort out wild cards such as Warner. Pietersen probably had to go but shame, shame, shame.

Abort, retry, fail
That's a real shame.

Is he signed up with a county? I know he was hired firepower for a while.

I do hope Giles doesn't get the job. He seems to be very dull and will pick his favourites.

He maybe the best batsman, but we lost the Ashes to lesser players (on paper) who played as a team. KP is NOT team player.

Pathetic decision which says a lot more about the shortcomings of those in charge than it does about KP's. Never been a real KP fan but his talent is undeniable and it is quite astonishing how poorly he has been handled by those in charge. Of course, the fact that he had to be 'handled' was a great shame and KP has to take some blame for that but when you have someone with that much talent you make damn sure he's integrated into the team with no issues and that is the job of team management. England's has failed dismally in this case.

And yet he's been a vital part of the team that conquered all for the decade prior to this winter's debacle. Yes, he has made mistakes (SA) but sacking him is unbelievably stupid.

The only person with issues is KP.

But is no one man bigger than the team? If he's that much of a **** in the dressing room then it's only answer, no one can be that good.

But the England staff allowed KP to become bigger than the team especially in the way they handled his disasterous captaincy and the aftermath. And has KP really changed that much since someone decided he was the best person to lead the England team? Thinking about it, making KP captain might have been a bigger mistake than ending his career now....

There's always huge issues with KP in that he does whatever he wants and will not abide by his Captain's instructions, which in turn does nothing for team morale.
Alastair Cook is not a strong enough leader to control KP, so one of them had to go and it's no surprise it is Pietersen.
