Former Brighton teacher charged over indecent images

A former Brighton school teacher has been charged with possessing and making indecent images of children.

Kenneth Browne, 60, of South Row, Blackheath, south-east London, was arrested by Sussex Police detectives in Brighton in July 2009.

Mr Browne, who had been assistant head of Dorothy Stringer High School, is due to appear before Brighton Magistrates' Court on 12 November.

He will face charges of possessing and making indecent images.

Sussex Police said the charges were internet-related and the "making" offences related to moving images onto a memory stick.

Anyone at Dorothy Stringer the same time as Mr Browne?

This was joked about more than once but for some reason he only used to get the 'boner' when he was angry with someone or the class. I suspect it would depend on the type of image and then intended purpose. I don't suppose they bring these cases lightly.

I suspect it's the police / CPS covering as many bases as possible. IF he's found guilty the charge of possession will be enough to send him down for a few years ( depending upon how graphic the images are ).

I remember you telling me about that before, creepy if true....

However I've got to say that I always thought he was a genuinely nice bloke, if a little camp, and I was shocked and horrified when the news broke out. Whilst he is of course "innocent until proven guilty", I believe the evidence against him is fairly conclusive: thus I would be surprised if he didnt recieve a prison sentence of some sort.

I reckon his behaviour has also had wider implications throughout the school: the head has just taken a full year off for stress related problems, and I've heard whispers that it is in part due to feeling responsible for the faith and responsibility he put in Mr Browne (he was made assistant head a couple of years prior to the incident), which placed him close to thousands of children.
