Not quite. Had him removed from the boardroom after the game, for celebrating a replay of the goal on the television.

Typically Bates nonsense, but Ridsdale was clearly being a prick, trying to provoke a reaction.

Untrue.

Here's the full story:

City boss Sam backing Ridsdale

South Wales Echo, Aug 21 2006

TODAY we reveal the full truth behind a day of dramatic bust-ups as Cardiff City beat Leeds United at Elland Road.

Peter Ridsdale, Cardiff City's executive vice-chairman and former chairman of Leeds, was thrown out of the Elland Road boardroom by Leeds chairman Ken Bates and told he was not welcome back ever again.

But reports of that bust-up are just the tip of the iceberg. We have learned that:

Bluebirds manager Dave Jones was verbally abused by a security man when he tried to talk to referee Nigel Miller. Jones was blocked from talking to Miller and told to: 'F*** off back to where you came from.'

Ken Bates set the tone for the day by greeting City officials with 'Iechyd da boyos!'

Ridsdale was subjected to a verbal tirade from Bates' wife Susannah after the match.

Bates accused Ridsdale of mocking the Elland Road attendance of just over 18,000.

The boardroom drama was sparked when Ridsdale and other City representatives celebrated Willo Flood's matchwinner after 83 minutes

We spoke to many witnesses who were in and around the directors' box and the boardroom on Saturday.

'Peter jumped up and went 'yes' before he sat down again,' said a witness. 'He stood for a maximum of 15 seconds then he sat down again.'

It's understood Bates then overheard Ridsdale talking on his mobile phone and heard the disappointing 18,000 attendance being mentioned.

When the Bluebirds chief, who is still being blamed for Leeds' demise in recent seasons by many up in Yorkshire, went into the boardroom and Ken Bates lost his cool, accusing him of mocking the attendance.

'Ken Bates and his wife, Susannah, had a right go at Peter Ridsdale,' said our eye witness. 'Bates was saying Ridsdale's behaviour was ridiculous. Susannah was also shouting from across the room.

'Bates suddenly said to Ridsdale: 'You can f*** off out of here and you are never welcome at Elland Road'.

'Ridsdale stayed calm and simply said: 'Before I go I will wish you all the best and will shake your hand.'

'Bates looked shocked at that, but they shook hands and Ridsdale left.'

As he walked away from the building, Ridsdale said: 'I was told I was no longer welcome at Elland Road at any time in the future.

'I asked what I had done and Ken said he didn't like my behaviour during the game. At that point I shook Ken's hand, wished him all the best for the season and left.'

Owner Sam Hammam did not attend the match because of a family bereavement, while fellow director Steve Borley left after around 80 minutes because he had to attend a dinner in South Wales.

Hammam said today: 'Having spoken to four witnesses I am totally satisfied that Peter Ridsdale's behaviour before, during and after the game at Elland Road was impeccable and totally in line with accepted behaviour.

'Having also discussed with Cardiff City officials who were in the boardroom, I can confirm that they witnessed Ken Bates using foul and abusive language loudly in telling Peter Ridsdale that he was no longer welcome in the Leeds boardroom now or at anytime.

'Peter Ridsdale reacted by saying he obviously was not welcome and proceeded to shake Ken Bates' hand and wished him all the best and left.

'During the episode Peter had also put up with a loud and verbal attack from Ken Bates' wife.

'Any suggestion that Peter Ridsdale's ejection is a pack of lies is utterly not factual and does not reflect on the reality of what happened.

'I sincerely hope that Ken Bates, on reflection, will regret his action on the day and accept that it was an in the heat of the moment outburst and that he will do the right and honourable thing by Peter.

'In the correct spirit and camaraderie in football, Peter has asked that Ken and his partner be welcomed if they choose to come to Ninian Park.

'Peter is totally unphased and calm about the whole episode. I have known Ken for over 25 years and he remains a friend who I respect and I put what should not have happened as just one of those things.'

Great pantomime!

It's difficult - I feel torn between two men, and clubs, that I have such a strong admiration for.

I think it's a bit of populist grandstanding by Bates. He knows Risdale is hated by Leeds and this gets him a nice few Brownie points for free.

PS - Is anyone else pleased to see Cardiff doing well? I know it's early days but they've made a good start. I'm really pleased mainly for Dave Jones who I think is an underrated manager. His record at all his clubs stands up well.

There's no love lost between Cardiff and Leeds since the former knocked them out of the FA Cup and a near riot ensued. Sam Hamman made an ass of hiself I seem to recall but there again hardly new with him.

As it is I can understand why Ridsdale is unpopular at Leeds but he has moved on but they clearly have not.

As it is Bates is a prize tit of truly pornographic proportions, he latest outburst about Chelsea trying to poach three Leeeds youngsters is yet another typical rent a gob outburst. The irony is that had it been made by almost anybody but Master Bates it would have some credibility given the Ashley Cole saga.

Bates is doing his level best to make Leeds hated the way they were in Revie's time, I wonder if that's what their fans actually want, over to you Starry.

Totally agree with that and I hope that Cardiff hammer Wolves twice this season. Jones is a very good manager who was treated very badly.

Fair enough but, please, let's not encourage that...some of us are still chuckling at how misdemeanours by unlovely Leeds were met by Starry's blithe "well, at least we at Leeds don't thrive on pity, like Liverpool" whitewash (although, to be fair, it was the first time they've been compared to a decent club for a while). Let's hope they don't crave respect either, I imagine it'll be in ever shortening supply.

On those criteria, you'll be hoping that they hammer Southampton by even more!

There were some great posts on the Leeds websites this weekend. This was my personal favourite:

"Why the f*** are Leeds Utd getting beaten by poxy little clubs like Cardiff? We have to remember who we are and we have to have a manager who is capable of giving us all that we deserve. Remember, we are Leeds."

These are the last eight results when Leeds have played Cardiff:

12/09/84: Cardiff City 2 Leeds United 1
29/12/84: Leeds United 1 Cardiff City 1
06/01/01: Cardiff City 2 Leeds United 1
02/10/04: Cardiff City 0 Leeds United 0
15/01/05: Leeds United 1 Cardiff City 1
09/08/05: Cardiff City 2 Leeds United 1
10/12/05: Leeds United 0 Cardiff City 1
19/08/06: Leeds United 0 Cardiff City 1

That's who they are. And they are Leeds.

Dave, how DARE you beat a club that is convinced that they are European Champions from 1975.
