Rivalry is still exactly the same for me. When I pointed out the fixture just before the international break, my son said "I can't even enjoy that match Dad, it makes me feel sick" But he'll be watching it and screaming at the TV.

I don’t mind Palace as many know. Got a few really good mates out of the palace posters on NSC too. Mates for life. They’re a really well ran family club with superb ethics and a history of doing the right thing. Sure, I hope we win, but if we lose that’s life.

To get the full experience, I need a ticket plus photo id to enter my living room so that I can watch the TV. All the comfy chairs will be removed and replaced by plastic seats with no leg room. The area by the fridge was been reduced in size so that with three people in that area it becomes full. After the game I will need to stand around for close to half an hour and then will be marched to my local railway station despite not wanting to go there.

Should be fun.

Make sure that your Mrs cooks some really shit pies (badly, so they're hotter than the sun but still botulism inducing in the middle).

Oh and then you must walk up and down your stairs about 100 times while she throws stuff at you and calls you a c###.

Actually (pies aside, the food is usually fantastic) that's a standard football day at home for me.

You know very well the post is not aimed at long distance fans, even accounting for fans like yourself or other valid reasons such as travel, health, money etc, that does NOT explain the missing 14k or so fans..... surely such a super cool fan like yourself can acknowledge that something is not right with that for a “fierce derby” that some fans love to tell everyone about, in songs and stories...

No I do get it mate. But I also get why lots of people didn't bother for a midweek, evening reserve team game. If I'd been down there then I'd have gone but I get why many didn't. How many did Palace take? Not many I guess.

I don't think it changed the rivalry is all.

The sprog has been brought up with a hatred of Palace because of facts. He's read Build a Bonfire, he understands the history and because of that he knows that we are a proper club and that they are cheating scum.

I think he was about 4 when he was sat on my knee in my office and we were watching Albion getting thumped 3-0 by them on a dodgy stream. With about 10 minutes to go, he said "Why are we still watching this Dad?" and I said "Because that's what you do"

Funny thing is, one of his best mates at school (in Sheffield) is Palace.

I live in Walthamstow and have half a dozen Albion mates. But whilst decorating a house on Tuesday, I saw a couple walking by with their child in a sling and elderly parents along side. As they passed I saw the young man's jacket said Palace on the back. I was genuinely outraged. What was he doing on my patch? I like to think I'm a rational and open minded man, free from petty prejudice, but I just really hate Crystal Palace!

This game is about the fans as much as anything, its about winding each other up before and after the game. Dishing out abuse from both sides. Its a game that feels special on the streets in the build up. Standing outside pubs with a bit of an edge in the air.

None of that Sunday so it just becomes another game in a way.

It's a unique situation and the situation has taken away much of the anticipation, looking forward to Derby day passed me by until I saw this thread , you just can't beat a derby day experience from the moment you wake up on the big day .

The current situation brings in to context that there actually are more important things in life than beating Palace but I long for the time we can all once again go back to the stadiums and enjoy watching football together again .

I miss it so much and I suppose just took it for granted I would always be allowed to watch a game of football if I could go .

Still hope we smash them though .
