I like Jason Steele but he is not a good Premier League goalkeeper all the stats are saying the same thing and what most of us see with the naked eye he just isnt good at this level. Our bad defending in general dont help him but weve not had a worse starting keeper in our PL eraI genuinely don’t get the hate on Steele ! I think people are looking for a scape goat when we don’t need one. Human nature I suppose.
No hate from me, but Bart is the (near) future - very happy for Steele to stay as back-up.I genuinely don’t get the hate on Steele ! I think people are looking for a scape goat when we don’t need one. Human nature I suppose.
What I find staggering about these stats is the claim we've kept 9 clean sheets this season. Surely not?!This season Bart has s tarted 19 games conceded 21 with 5 clean sheets

I hate stats with a passion. I go on what I see. And what I see is a good talented goalie. Barts a good keeper as well. I just don’t see why people go mental when Steele is picked. I’d be the first to wish him goodbye if I saw a fault (like I did with Sanchez), but I just don’t see it.I like Jason Steele but he is not a good Premier League goalkeeper all the stats are saying the same thing and what most of us see with the naked eye he just isnt good at this level. Across all competitions. 5 in Europa League (Ajax h&a, Marseille h, AEK a, Roma h) 4 in Premier League (West Ham a, Wolves h, Sheff United a, Forest h).What I find staggering about these stats is the claim we've kept 9 clean sheets this season. Surely not?!
Just one example of many - the FA Cup game at Wolves.I hate stats with a passion. I go on what I see. And what I see is a good talented goalie. Barts a good keeper as well. Seems strange to pose the question of why he's doing it when RDZ has already told the media:Stat analysis of both keepers by Karen Bardsley on BBC website:
Brighton set a new Premier League record - but can rotating goalkeepers really work?
Former England number one Karen Bardsley takes a deeper look at Brighton's record-breaking goalkeeper rotation this season and explores why they have done it, and whether it has worked.www.bbc.co.uk
Any others ?Just one example of many - the FA Cup game at Wolves.
Second minute and a ‘nothing’ high ball comes into the box. Bread and butter stuff for a PL keeper. Steele, under no pressure, completely misjudges the flight of the ball, rushes out, gets right underneath it and weakly palms it down into the six yard box. 0-1 and we’re out the cup. It was as good an ‘assist’ as you’ll see all season.
No ‘hate’ for Steele here, but what I see is a keeper who is far short of PL levels.
I’d be the first to wish him goodbye if I saw a fault (like I did with Sanchez), but I just don’t see it.
He just pointed out one you missed.Any others ?
Thing is not the mistakes because he isnt doing many. But were at the highest level now and we cant pick keepers based on who makes the least mistakes. We need to pick the one with the highest capacity to keep difficult shots from resulting in goals. The problem with Jason isnt the mistakes the problem with Jason is that half of the goals hes letting in would be saved by a better goalkeeperAny others ?
1. Is that itHe just pointed out one you missed.
All that was needed.1. Is that it
I thought the interesting part of that article was about how difficult it can be to bed in new keepers in the Premier League and how, whether this was intended to benefit Bart long term or not it probably willSeems strange to pose the question of why he's doing it when RDZ has already told the media:
"I'm lucky because I have two goalkeepers who are great. I don't want to lose anyone and Brighton want to keep both inside of the plan.
"It's my responsibility and decision when one of them has to play and when the other doesn't.
"In the last transfer market, we sold [Moises] Caicedo, [Alexis] Mac Alliser and [Levi] Colwill was on loan, but he played a lot of us last year.
"We lost three important, crucial players and one part of my work is to help the young players to become better because the policy of Brighton is like this. If I accept working here, I have to manage in that direction."
We're in the business of always trying to balance the future with the current. Players will leave, so the squad needs constant development. Steele and Verbruggen have also spoken about it to the media, both saying that he told them that this is what would happen this season. It seems obvious that this is partially prompted by the Sanchez issues last year. It's an attempt to make everyone feel a valued squad member.
The comparison with Villa is cherry picked and facile. Over the last five seasons our transfer balance is +€12.66m whereas they have spent €385.92m. Up to the start of March we'd lost 1093 days through injury compared to their 806. We have twice as many U21s in our first team squad and almost twice as many who are over thirty. Rotation is a necessity for us because we are competing within constraints that the likes of Villa are not.
