I reckon our 'second string' on Saturday will be a lot better than our starting 11 often was a couple of seasons ago. Incredible really.

the 2nd team for the Reading League Cup game was pretty similar to what it might be tomorrow. If not stronger.
It was a fairly poor display.

Mäenpää
Hunt
Hünemeier
Goldson
Pocognoli (Skalak)
Norwood
Sidwell
Ince(Hemed)
Manu (Murphy)
Baldock
Murray

League Cup = necessary evil that, despite what might be said beforehand, is a competition that we are not really interested in

FA Cup = necessary but historically significant competition that we probably won't win but a good crack at it will help the continuity and confidence in the squad

Conclusion = Second-string will probably try a bit harder to get us through.

Goldson
Adekugbe
Skalak
Kayal
Sidwell
Murphy
Towell
Hemed

Reckon It'll be a lot better than the Reading game

All very sensible comments from Hughton. Do you think he ever drops a clanger, even at home?! His Mrs must be permanently happy.

Starting Duffy would be bonkers. Taking the risk of losing the other of our starting CBs would be madness, and it he plays that risk is there.

Remember, also, that as an international he doesn't benefit from the week off on international breaks like many of our squad.

WOW

Is that what he was working with when he first arrived.. He always says you need about 4 good transfer windows to turn things around. Given that he didn't use the first transfer window, did he ? This will be his 4th window so on schedule really, although I would say that he almost turned it round in 2 transfer windows.

That wasn't CH first game, think you have quoted the team from the year before. His first game was in the 2015/16 season

That was last season. As in the one where we nearly/should've got promoted. Hughton took over when we were in deep doodoo.:ffsparr:

I think he just added Kayal in that initial January window.

He did use the first window - that would be the window in which we bought Kayal - therefore this would be the 5th window... No wonder we're f**kin amazing this season compared to the past seasons (Hyypia mainly)
