Who on here was actually offended by her comments?

Seen a lot written about how you can see why others might be offended, but as to be offended is subjective I'd be interested on who actually WAS offended?

Let's have a show of hands

I'm not sure that offence is the main issue. Isn't more a case of inciting racial violence?

Personal I think that the report today of 23,000 SUSPECTED TERROR suspects at large in the UK is far more worrying than an attention seeking radio host.

How many Mosques can Mi5 monitor and will it even make a difference! !

On a more upbeat note, is Tammy what we need ?

I pity her kids, look at the legacy that she is leaving for them, I think that she may be a bit deranged.
She gets a reaction everytime she comments, so feels compelled to keep commenting, trying to out do the last one for a bigger reaction.
Desperately clutching at straws to stay in the limelight, maybe that is a talent, maybe not.
There will only be a percentage of the population that ever takes any notice of her comments, fortunately.

In that sense she is simply a product of the internet era. Many posters even on NSC use ridiculously insulting language to describe people with whom they disagree. Exaggeration to make a point is endemic. The only difference with Katie Price was that she had a radio show as an additional platform.

I am genuinely puzzled by this...are you saying that because Hitler and the Nazis couldn't have killed all the Jews even if they had wanted to; and and because they killed people other than Jews but only in certain places; and because Stalin killed a lot of people as well; that Hitler wasn't as bad as he has been painted?

No I am not.
What I was trying to say was that the Nazi's were fond of grand rhetoric and sweeping generalisations,,,," the Final Solution "...." Tomorrow the World "....." a Thousand Year Reich "...etc etc. It was a series of carefully planned and thought through soundbites. We need to be clear as to whether Katie Hopkins was saying...." the Final Solution "....or " a Final Solution "
There is a clear difference. " The Final Solution " can be interpreted as a direct reference to the actions of the Nazi Party. " A Final Solution " is something totally different and can be applied to many different things. Small difference in wording but a hell of a big difference in interpretation.

It appears that there are 3,000 currently being monitored and 20,000 that have been monitored in the past. I assume that with the 20,000 that have been monitored they are no longer being monitored as they are not considered a risk.

Of the 3,000 only a small percentage are likely to pose a threat. I think what these figures illustrate is that finding terrorists before they do anything is a needle in a haystack problem.

Do you think it's all just a coincidence regarding the Nazi link then?

If so I have some magic beans I'm selling that you may be interested in?

Her comments could be construed as encouraging violence against Muslims. As to who she's inciting at a start Neo-Nazis.

I don't think it's anything to do with Neo-Nazis. Plenty of people who aren't white nor Anglo-Saxon don't like the ideology of Islam.

I don't think there's any Neo-Nazis in the Philippines or in Egypt. Two places whose populations have experienced Islamic violence since Manchester.

This is a world problem, not just a local one.

Different people interpret things in different ways. Just because you interpret something a certain way, it doesn't follow that everyone else does.

I'd be surprised if there were many educated people who didn't interpret "final solution" as a Holocaust reference. I can't recall ever seeing the phrase used in another context.

Don't drag her into this! :lolol:

Personally, I'm not sure she intentionally referenced Nazis. She may have tweeted drunk, thought "that looks wrong, I'll edit that" after re-reading, but it was too late. I too would like a final solution to Islamic terrorism, and I've never pulled on a pair of jackboots in my life! Just to clarify, if I was in a History quiz and the question was "Who coined the phrase or term 'final solution'?" my answer would have been Einstein or some other mathematician. I had no idea what it meant up until now.

I'm no great fan of Katie Hopkins, and she does spout crap sometimes - but... she's in the public eye, she's honest, and she says what she thinks.

However, in 2017, saying what you think when there are many people who disagree can be a career-ending move. We don't do controversy these days.

Yes I understand why quoting final solution can be taken offensively.

But not as much as seeing 22 young people intentionally blown up.

In short I think if people are so easily offended I worry about their ability to get through life.

The biggest problem we face as a country is not Katie Hopkins, it's the scum that hunk its clever to blow our children up. The exact same scum she is being grave enough to have a go at, when most of the media are too scared.

For that I applaud her even though if her wording was very poorly thought through.

I don't think anyone is ranking offence, which is what you seem to be suggesting. Clearly what happened in Manchester is a bigger issue but equally we can also have an opinion on Katie Hopkins. And many are not actually offended....it's more that we'd prefer a world where calculating rent-a-gobs like her don't have air time. Who would?

As for Katie Hopkins being brave? Come on.

You asked who Katie Hopkins was inciting to violence with a comment about a final solution. I think a comment like that could incite a Neo-Nazi.

I think you'll find if someone is already a Neo-Nazi then a tweet from some woman in the media is going to have zero impact on their already preconceived views. Certainly won't have any impact on their actions. They'd do what they do with or without her.

Her tweet in isolation is unlikely to incite anyone to do anything but if it's part of a wider background of 'we need to do something about the Muslims' rhetoric then it could contribute to people feeling justified to carry out attacks against Muslims.

There's a report on the BBC about hate crimes increasing:

Who would have thought people might be a bit sensitive about the holocaust!

I think that anyone who paid the slightest attention at school or subsequently watched any number of documentaries or feature films is familiar with the term "Final Solution"

Controversy? Yeah, it is healthy. When the person talking or writing means what they say and controversy is a by-product of a valid point or opinion. When it's just being said as a way to keep the cheques from the Daily Mail rolling in then it's pathetic and meaningless.

As for the woman herself. Hmm, if it were a one off comment you could put it down to a moment of ignorance but she's got lots of previous and she deserved to be fired.

As an interesting point, we must "do controversial". You wouldn't ever hear of things like this if we didn't.
