I think people tend to judge their wealth in comparison to their peers. The trouble is, as you earn more and more money, you tend to find yourself rubbing shoulders with people who earn more and more money. The peer group shifts. It's a never-ending conveyor belt.

That is a misquote. It actually says 'the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil'. It is a descriptive comment rather than a definitive judgement.

I said on a thread a couple of weeks ago this is the death of the premier league, once one or two start going, wooooosh they will all be tempted. I would not be surprised if in under two seasons, the premier league will be playing second fiddle, all leagues have their moments in the Sun, Italian, Spanish, ok maybe not Scotland but it’s a cycle.

There’s no major football history or culture in Saudi though . Even if they get world class players in that will always be a stumbling block in getting fans to invest in teams .

We're going on a bit of a tangent here but the quote doesn't say that at all. "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

In other words, if you go to Saudi, you'll live to regret it

I agree with the sentiment largely but you are quoting the King James version and almost all other modern versions translate it as I quoted.

I think, biblical quotes aside, it is not. For instance, a caveman kills his neighbour because he fancies his neighbours wife. That isn't love of money. Unless one is willing to relegate the woman in this instance to 'money'. I suppose a wife could be considered in some societies as currency. This breaks a different commandment, not to covert a neighbour's wife.

There are many other instances where 'evil' is not caused by loving money.

The difference with the Saudi League is the Saudi's could fund it and throw bucket loads of cash at it for 100 years if they want. They've already got some of the best players in the world and bought numerous top European clubs and sporting leagues already.
