What are these facts that you talk of? It is all about opinions because statistics are dependant upon the circumstances.

This attitude is the complete opposite of the one that built our squad.

Look at the Championship player stats for 2015/16 and ask yourself why we bought Duffy and Norwood: https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/2...ayerStatistics/England-Championship-2015-2016
Look who was top of the 15/16 Bundesliga stats for key passes, https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/8...PlayerStatistics/Germany-Bundesliga-2015-2016 and 2nd in 16/17 for this and crosses https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/8...PlayerStatistics/Germany-Bundesliga-2016-2017.
Look who was 4th for key passes in 16/17's Eredivisie: https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/1...erStatistics/Netherlands-Eredivisie-2016-2017
Look who is still on the front page of 2017/18's Eredivisie attacking stats, despite not having played there for four months: https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/1...erStatistics/Netherlands-Eredivisie-2017-2018

Tony Bloom does believe in statistics and this is one reason why Tony Bloom is a billionaire.

Tony Bloom employs people who believe in statistics and this is one reason why Tony Bloom is a billionaire with a football club in the Premier League.

If it is 'all about opinions' (the calling cry of those who have no facts, but still want to be listened to), it's my opinion that you have no good reason at all to place Dunk behind five or six current English centre backs and are just sounding off.

Get over it folks. Murray is too old to be considered for England and I’m pleased Dunky has been overlooked as he’ll attract less attention from other teams in the summer and be fit and raring to go for us next season in the Premier League!

The reason (no good as it may be) he places Dunk behind five or six current English centre backs (and also the reason behind the majority of his other daft posts) is because he is primarily a contrarian. Facts and opinion are barely relevant, he gets tickled by opposing popular views no matter what they are; the silly old sausage!

I see Jahankasbah at the top of the erdevise stats, wonder if he regrets turning us down?

If a top international manager known for his impeccable judgement, tactical nous and mantelpiece groaning under the weight of silverware had turned down Dunk, I'd be mortified, annoyed, frustrated and depressed.

But it's Gareth Southgate. Total of previous managerial jobs: 1 (Middlesbrough); trophies won: 0; relegations: 1. Achievements with England u-21: last place in group stage, 2015 European Championships.

Hart; Welbeck; Livermore.

That tweet won’t have helped either.

Murray in interviews , see Premier League show tonight, is pretty self aware about his ability as a player.
Just said he regretted, re: England chances, only playing in the Prem at age of 30.
He knew, we all knew , that his chance of being picked in this squad was remote let alone for Russia. Good story though (34 year old !) which is why it got a lot of press/media chat.

Tweet was also in this vein. Self deprecating gentle stuff.

Out of eligible centre backs, in his first season in the top division:

First in blocks: https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/outfielder_block
First in interceptions: https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/interception
First in tackles: https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/total_tackle
Level second in last man tackles: https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/last_man_tackle (Behind only one who has been picked)
Third in clearances: https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/total_clearance (Behind only one who has been picked)
Sixth in headed clearances: https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/head_clearance (Behind only two who have been picked)
Third in aerial battles won:https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/aerial_won (Behind only one who has been picked).
Third in passing: https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/total_pass

Seventh in line? Take off your Red and Blue tinted glasses.

I'm not interested in a debate about which player is better than that other player but I admit these stats for Dunk are very impressive this season.

But stats do not always give the full picture when it comes to who has "the most tackles", "the most blocks", "most interceptions" etc.

For instance, Dunk's numbers were achieved in 30 PL games while Tarkowski's have been achieved in only 23 matches (4 injured, 3 suspended). How many blocks, tackles and interceptions would JT have if he had played the same games? For all I know, Dunk still might be leading some categories.

Somewhere over there...
I was going to say that a Brighton player might get a call up if someone gets injured, but after the November internationals when so many defenders got injured and Dunk still got over looked. His time will come and maybe even Stephens as well, if they can both play as well as they are now in the PL next season (with Brighton obviously) then it would be difficult to not give them a chance.

I suppose Gareth Southgate can justify it as Welbeck played against Milan. Apart from pre-season friendlies, how much experience have Dunk and Murray had against foreign opposition?

Er, I agree Stephens did a job on him in the first half, but Wilshere absolutely ran the game in the last half hour.
That might have been because we resorted to dropping back so deep instead of taking the game to Arsenal as we did in the first half. Wilshire was always going to look better than he did in the first half.

It's disappointing for Murray and Dunk but it might be better for them not to play for England. Especially an England managed by that cock Southgate. Two ready made scapegoats for when England under-perform in the upcoming friendlies. Focus on The Albion guys and bollocks to Southgate's England.

Interesting take on it. So you don't you think that Tarkowski getting himself suspended for losing his cool and assaulting an opponent, should be considered when weighing up the candidates?

IMO Tarkowski got the nod for one reason only - because Poland are sniffing about, and they don't want to lose him as an option.
