It's very unfortunate that this brilliant piece of writing is only available to Athletic subscribers.
If you have a subscription I would urge you to read it.

We know Justin Fashanu died. Now let us hear how he lived - By Adam Crafton

It's an outstanding article detailing Justin's tormented life, how he was treated and how he dealt with it.
It contains quite a few references to his time while living in Brighton.
Justin Fashanu was clearly not faultless but the behaviour of the media in the eighties and nineties is truly shocking as well as the behaviour of some high-profile people towards him.

I'm not eloquent enough to write about the various emotions I feel after reading the article, but I'm sure that the more people that read it the better.

Well done to Adam Crafton for one of the best pieces of journalism I've read.

Read it a couple of days back, a long but excellent article.

An interesting reminder of just how much society has changed in the last 30-40 years.

Clearly still homophobia about, but it's the exception rather than the rule. Daily Mail and co have simply moved on to foreigners!

There's a documentary all about him on (i think) iPlayer. It alluded to quite a dark side of him..

Brilliant footballer, though.

It's an amazingly well written and researched article. Shows the complex side to his nature and the (still) abhorrent tabloids and the unbelievable awfulness of his brother, John.
Worth the subscription fee alone.
