Any NSCers have this certificate? Worth having? What should I expect over the course? I'm doing it through the Sussex County FA, and if it's worthwhile I want to go up the FA ladder and coach locally - youth or adult - at sometime in the very near future.

Cheers in advance

I've done it.

Very basic, but a decent enough introduction to the FA courses. I've used a number of the drills over here in Dubai.

You'll be looking at a Level 3 (UEFA 'B') to get involved in clubs.

I tried to get onto the local fa website with the plan to register for this course, but it never seems to be working.
Is this the only route available, any idea of duration and cost?

Yeah, I have it. It's piss easy and very basic. You won't be coaching adults with it, you'd need at least level two. If you want to work with a decent standard of adult/youth team you'd need level 3. Level one's worth doing though as it'll serve as your introduction to coaching and give you a basic idea of whether you want to take it further.

Yeah, I was aware it was only an introduction to coaching, and that I'd need a level 3 to get involved seriously. I've no illusions of making this a new career, just would like to get involved in the game locally for fun, I haven't played competitively for years now.

Thanks for the responses

Silky, get a FAN number here: http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/WhoWeAre/ContactUs/NewsAndFeatures/2007/FANnumber.aspx It's free and you can use it to sign up at the Sussex FA

Then look at the courses available here (you'll have to register with both), and click on "coaching courses" for the Sussex FA courses: http://www.sussexfa.com/default.htm

Costs £120 for the Level One, 32 hour course over two saturdays and a wednesday night

I did it and its a good laugh if you get on the right course!

When I did it I was with a load of guys who hadnt played football for years and were taking over kids sides and all of them had the 'Saturday morning training' mentality from when they were kids.

Its baisically a turn up and get a certificate kind of course but you will learn a few decent drills from it that even the Albion 1st team do!

Have signed up myself recently too, looking forward to it as for me it should be very usefull. Spent the entire summer looking for jobs, and have already been offered a job for when i finish the course 2 or 3 nights a week. Also looking to coach when im older at a slightly higher level, or maybe even just kids football, and this is the best way to get about starting.

I've done it. It's a good laugh but like others have said very basic and you will need to do Level 2/3 to get into it seriously. You also get first aid training if you haven't already done that through other means, which is useful.

All in all definitely worth doing.

I was on the same course as Mendoza on here and am a level 1 coach. Hart's Shirt's post is a bit misleading as you don't need to do ANY coaching badges to become involved in football at a low level. However, it does help.

I coach Under 8's and am club secretary at Mile Oak Wanderers so if you want any tips or help, then give me a shout.

BTW, I really enjoyed Level 1 - It's a good course, you get to meet some real characters and of course, you not only get your first aid certificate, you also get the all important Safeguarding Children certificate which in many respects is just as important as the level 1 qualification itself now.

Anyway - good luck!

Nice one, I'm ok first aid wise, I'm a hostile environment team medic, which is just as well when you see me play football :tantrum:

I might give you a shout in future for tips etc, thanks for responding, and to everyone else

WSU, just below the seagull.
I did my level 1 this summer at Lancing. I got on a Mcdonalds sponsered course through my sons club being charter standard. Once i'd passed i got sent training kit, 16 footballs, bibs and cones and 2 tickets for the community shield, all for £20 outlay. Like others have said, the course is easy, but gets you on the ladder.

There are now two routes that you can follow from your Level 1. The traditional path through Level 2 and upwards still exists but if you want to focus on coaching kids then the new youth awards are the way to go. Biggest problem the Sussex FA is that they don't have enough people to teach this at the moment so the courses are few and far between as well as only being held during the week - not ideal for most peopleinvolved in kids football.

New rules for Charter Standard Youth Football teams mean that clubs will have to have people qualified in the new youth award in the near future so this could be worth following if you want to get invoved with a club.

Thanks for the advice Xenophon, I am in Staffordshire/Cheshire so will try direct to their FA's.
I want to get to a good enough standard for children's coaching as my eldest son has recently joined a local club.

Thats the one, might well change though as the course clashes with the southampton away game, along with a couple of other dates im busy.

Southampton has been moved to Sunday 15th November. PM me as I'll be there too. Cool.
