That's always been the way for Johnson though. " All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others. "... old Eric Blair was so amazingly prescient, I wonder what he would make of the state of our democracy today?

A government without a shred of decency or honour held in thrall to a Liar-in-Chief who picks and chooses his morals as it suits him.

The 80 seat majority in the 2019 election was basically a green light to say....

Look at Joe public, they're easy meat we can do pretty much whatever we like. We only need 3 out of 10 voters, and to hell with the rest of them

You're either with us or against us

It is amazing anyone listens to any political party on restrictions - mainly due to the Tories - but it seems most the parties are at it.

Without doubt the party of " Conviviality and Fraternity " are the major rule breakers on this as has been witnessed day after day in The Commons until recently.

It's disingenuous to say " Most parties are at it " just as it is disingenuous to say that ALL MP's are coining it by having overpaid second jobs when it's patently obvious that the overwhelming majority are Tories.

Besides, it may be old fashioned to expect this, but,it should be the party of government to set the highest standards at all times..... Otherwise national leaders such as Macron can describe our Prime Minister as ' Un Clown "

I'm sorry but its a bit lazy to say they're all the same.

Every party has bad apples, but the current ruling party have shown again and again they make their own rules, whether its their own Covid rules, honouring International treaties or maybe just misleading the Queen.

Well no, its lazy to say its not all parties.

Just off the top of my head we had the labour party conference where mask wearing was nil.

That is being kind to Johnson and you are correct - the party in charge should be setting the higher standards

But that doesnt stop people switching off to a message if those giving it or demanding actions are being hypercritcal.

I've lost track of things over the last 21 months but I'm pretty certain that the Labour Party conference wasn't held in the middle of a lockdown like Boris Johnson's Christmas parties were?

Wasn't sure for him or Aitken but he was 1999-2001 and Archer was 2001-2003.

Bloody Worthing!
George Freeman, Minister for Something or Other, was asked if there was a party at Downing Street last Xmas. He replied that he didn't know because he wasn't there but that someone who WAS there had told him that all rules were followed. Hang on George.............wasn't the rule something like no parties?

The messaging in the last few days has been nothing short of farcical. These people will lie reflexively, contradict each other and wilfully confuse the public.

It's hard to remember what the rules were on a given date and in which location-based tier.

I suspect "Rule of 6" was in force though ? ??? In which case it was clearly a very small party ?

So awful they won the by election with 50% of the vote how bad does that make the opposition
It doesn't make the opposition bad at all.

There are such things as 'safe seats'. This one was an example of such.

You can lead the electorate to water etc. etc.

Labour share in the low 30's similar to the 97-10 period, they never win there. Rock solid Blukip territory

If the recent intake of Tory MPs is anything to go by, the replacement for the late James Brokenshire will a poor one
