Just been on a brilliant Lantern walk in Preston Park

A really good pumpkin lantern walk around the perimeter of Preston Park.

I overheard this was the reason Blue etc was cancelled as the organisers of this got in first and the council basically forgot about it.

Loads of young local families having a really good time.

And rightly so.

Organised by friends of preston park who are doing a superb job in bringing nice, small events to the local community. When the waterfall is fixed in the rock garden (hopefully in the next month or two...we're just waiting for the sparkies now), we're hoping to have some official opening and maybe i'll do some guided tours etc so be good to see you then.

very mixed mate. Whilst it will get rid of the commuters, it'll piss off the local park users, although it'll only be 50p an hour to park with a maximum stay of 4 hours.

Im against it...purely from a selfish point of view, as it'll mean me having to pay about £5 a day to park in the park i work in.

Why? There's plenty of streets off Preston Drove by the cricket pitch with no parking restrictions. So far as I can see they don't get overly clogged by commuters.

I thought the parking issue was to deter London Road and Brighton commuters rather than Preston Park. All the PP stn parkers have now decamped to The Droveway and Erlington Rd etc.

Why? There's plenty of streets off Preston Drove by the cricket pitch with no parking restrictions. So far as I can see they don't get overly clogged by commuters.

They don't NOW! They will if the park goes pay+display, so they'll go permit only too, costing me money. They should just make it max stay 4 hours, or open up Preston Park Avenue for free parking again.

I think they're going to do SOMETHING about Preston Park Avenue parking, saw it in the blurb we got round, something about the council acknowledging its currently under-used.

Think they only introduced parking restrictions in the first place because of some of the travellers taking the piss and setting up home there for months if not years. That poxy green bus for starters.

I think there'll be a "prohibitive return within one hour" type thing. even though some people work in the offices along the A23...some go into town and some to the smoke so moving the car will be a complete pain or impossible.

There have been several public consultations and your chance to have your say....hopefully most have done so.

The predicted revenue is £8,000 pa. That is the equivalent of ten cars parking for four hours each and everyday of the year. Where is the rest going?

Don't know the full details mate but it'll probably pay for "policing" the scheme.

Paul....if you're ever at a loose end fella....pop down to the rockery on a wednesday from 10-1 ish and give us a hand in the garden. Nothing heavy but a bit of weeding, a bit of planting and we're about to enter a very exciting time in the rock garden so it would be great to see you there.
