Anyone know why I have had a Junkers JU-88 flying over my house?
I have the air rifle out ready for the parachutes.

Just seen a Ju-52 flying West-East along the seafront, is this the same as your Ju-88 do you think? Ju-52 is a trimotor job with a fuselage that looks like it's made out of corregated tin; this one seemd to be painted silver with a red tail fin. They were certainly used to drop parachutists, as well as other general "bus" duties, and it seems appropriate to use air-rifles, pea-shooters, etc if you see one. Or you could just shout rude insults in German until they get upset and fly away.

Saw the Ju-52 not long after the 88. Both heading south west.
Keep your eye on them guys...those crazy krauts might be gearing up for a sneaky attack......

Didn't know there WERE any Ju-88s flying; having said that, I didn't know there were any 52s flying either. The Ju-52 I saw was flying along the seafront, and I caught a glimpse between the houses of another plane, too (they were flying line astern), but not enough to see what it was - maybe the 88, then. Definitely sounds like trouble, possibly a bit of intimidation before the World Cup, or perhaps (well, it was Kemptown seafront) just a bit of the old Teutons-in-jumpsuits thing. I believe Goering wore make-up and ladies' underwear while conducting the air war in Europe...

A lot of JU-52's wound up in civil aviation in Spain and South America -- they were built under license in Spain thru the '50's -- and there were a lot of flyers till the mid '70's. I'm guessing that's where the JU-52 came from.

As for the JU-88, I'm surprised there are any flyers....

Are you positive it was a Ju88 as i'm sure none are flying these days, there's a preserved example at Hendon Air Museum, but none flying. It wasn't a CASA version of the Heinkel 111 was it? Twin engines that are roughly level with the front of the cockpit which is nigh on entirely glass. Very distinctive if you got a good look.

The last airworthy HE-111, including the Spanish versions, was crashed in 2003 killing the pilot, so I doubt its back...

mmmm..
I've googled JU 88 and I have to admit I have been mis-informed.
I saw (what I believe to be) the JU-52 that has been described, red tail etc.

I have no idea now what the first one was, it was big, silver, twin engined thing.

Problem with living near an airport is that you see so many planes you hardly notice them, but this one definitely caught my eyes and ears.
