Having to drive unfortunately once my mate finishes work. Are those roadworks still going on on the M1 near Luton? I remember Northampton and it was an absolute mare!

What you reckon guys - play it safe and go M40?

Always M40 at the moment. Even when I'm heading further up the M1 I've got into the habit of starting up the M40 and then cutting across, avoiding all that Luton nonsense.

Just heard on the radio the M1 is closed at some point because of an overturned lorry. Though I see you're just leaving, maybe someone else may benefit from this post.

Near Mansfield I think I heard, air ambulance being deployed and traffic building up very fast

My geography isn't the best, I have no idea if mansfield is before or after stockport, or how likely it is for the tailback to reach far enough back to affect fans going to stockport (if mansfield is after it).

Nor have I  but if I was going I'd definitely give the M1 a miss

I just looked it up, mansfield is just passed nottingham, stockport is just outside manchester. So you'd have to go past Mansfield to get to stockport.

Anyone who still hasn't left, avoid the M1 and use the M40.

why would you want to go up the m1 to get to stockport anyway? m40/m6 would be the quickest and easiest way, even without the average speed nonsense on the m1

Always use the M40, from past experience.
