He has refused to wear one in the past.
Is that because he was once a victim of "friendly fire" or is it a conscience thing do you know? I'm guessing being the only one not honouring the dead is a touch embarrasing for his employers
he was at the centre of a shitstorm last year about it. he refused to wear a poppy because of the histrionics of certain media outlets (that shall remain nameless) that were guilty of (what i think he termed) 'poppy facism'.
hysterical, over the top, self righteous damnation was issued upon any public figure caught not wearing a poppy... accusations of being unpatriotic and worse. i'm sure you can imagine the tone.
so he took a stand against it. if he is wearing one now...
well, it's because he made his point and made it well.
ps. he is an albion fan? sweet. add him to the pantheon!
Yeah, it all broke in 2006. He said he always wore them, but not on air, not least because of the multitude of causes with physical symbols that can potentially be foisted on broadcasters.
In particular, I think it was a reaction to broadcasters (the BBC) pinning poppies on anyone moments before they went on air (ie guests who weren't already wearing them) in the fear that the organisation itself would be lambasted as having an anti-veteran stance
