I think that's probably fair, on looking back. However I can totally understand the ref sending him off at the time, at Man City, with about 10 seconds to decide.

He's the England captain - its allowed.
Remember Shearer assaulting Lennon on the pitch just before the 98 World Cup ? The England captains armband absolves you from punishment. Its only because Beckham was too slow to catch up with anyone (let alone foul them), that the issue had gone away for a while.

Terry is also allowed to handball in the area (watch out for those "star jumps" to block crosses). All perfectly legal.

Will Anyinsah get off, given that there is also video evidence?

I think and I could be wrong, only Premiership clubs have the right of appeal and only for a straight red, not two yellows so no.

Two bookings, don't think you can appeal.

I think this is bollocks, he's off on a technicality. The tackle was a shithouse and I reckon it deserved a red. He dragged him down with his arms for f*** sake.

John Terry is a shithouse.

Completely fair enough. only last season people were bemoaning the fact that no decisions ever got overturned. the fact that it's John Terry should have nothing to do with it.

Yeah, there is that thing about unsporting conduct, but then the argument is that it's not a straight red. Or is it? I have no idea anymore.

I have no problem with who it is. I will just be keeping my eye on the same kind of sendings off all season to make sure there is no double-standards going on.
I have a feeling there will be...

The letter of the law says it's not a red card, so the ref got it wrong.

In my opinion, however, it should be - it was so blatant.

What I now can't understand is that the foul now goes TOTALLY unpunished. Surely they should be able to overturn the red but say it's now a yellow!

Also why can't you appeal against a red that is made up of two yellows? If there's been an injustice, does it matter?

the fact that he may or may not have been the last man, or whether it was a goal scoring opportunity is neither here nor there in my opinion. he cheated. he used foul means to bring him down, and it was absolutely 100% intentional. a rugby tackle on a football pitch should be a red card, there is no doubt about it. england captain? disgrace.

complete bottle job by the Fa, the bloke deliberatly cheated. He had been done by pace and skill didn't like it so rugby tackled him. Middle of the field or by the box shouldn't matter you cheat you get sent off simple as. Basically the FA have said it don't matter if you rugby tackle you get away with it, great example to set and nothing like backing up the refs in the 'respect' campaign. Vidic should have got a straight red as well but that is a different matter.

And in fact it should be doubled for gesturing 3-1 to City fans as he trudged off. England captain? Disgrace.

I think because Chelsea only let their captain speak to the ref in a dignified manner, like the new rules in the Respect the Ref campaign state, they were given a reprieve and Terry, because he is also a role model as England captain was allowed to play on without suspension.
