I liked him, unlike other politicians from all the main parties he came across as direct, honest. And that reactive punch will always live in the memory!

I admired Prescott, the same way I admired Tony Benn and Margaret Thatcher. Regardless of their views, they were passionate and said what they believed in. He never changed (despite the croquet moment) and that is to be applauded. Oh to have politicians on both sides now like him. It's a sadder world without them.

We would not have got Falmer without him. Prescott not only granted the initial permission for the stadium, he understood why we needed it. John embraced the campaign with grace and humour and we will forever be grateful to him. RIP John.

As has been said above, he was at the Kyoto climate conference when he was approached by someone, who after asking him a few climate questions, then said 'and now I need to talk to you about the Brighton and Hove Albion stadium' to which JP replied 'you bloody seagulls get everywhere'.

I love this so much.
