Gaunt is just a tabloid reactionairy gobshite who's brain is permanently ten steps behind his mouth. I've heard him get royally OWNED several times on his taudry little phone-in, but he usually manages to cover this up by shouting over the caller before cutting him off and going to a break. The bloke is an utter gimp, and I'm delighted he's got the bullet. Hopefully at best he'll only get a regional job now somewhere in that midlands griefhole he bangs on about, so the rest of the country won't have to put up with him.

This has cheered me up no end... the guy had some good points on rare occasions, but was clueless about how he expressed them, and was rather a gobshite. Hopefully they'll reinstate Whale in that time slot! LOL!

James Whale has the drivetime slot on LBC97.3, so I don't think he'll be looking for a return.

The thing that really pissed me off about him was the way he just cut people off when they didnt go along with what he was saying.
Having said that he did stick up for the average working man.

Gaunt was very hit and miss, but at least his show was entertaining. Of late he'd got much better at listening to other peoples views, I've heard him back down on a few occasions over the last couple of months.
That smoking case was like a red rag to a bull for him though, he was in care as a child and his foster mother smoked, he just crossed the line by calling the bloke a nazi, but to be fair he isn't far wrong.
Ian collins bores me to death, if you listen to him he is probably more opinionated than Gaunt, the only difference is that he doesn't shout. I find Collins a bit out of touch as well, at least Gaunt was usually talking about the relevant subject, weather you agreed with him or not.

I was listening to the show when he called the bloke a Nazi and I must admit I thought he was being a bit over-zealous in his questioning. He just kept saying "you are a Nazi, aren't you?" at the bloke, who -to be honest - didn't have much of a clue as to how he was going to invoke the no smoking ban on foster carers or why it was needed at all.

Like others have said, I would often groan and look for something else to listen to if I was driving about when he was on the radio, so no great loss. Ian Collins is much easier on the ear, but seems a bit repetitive.

What makes me switch channels more often, though, is the relentless advertising of their on-line magazine and interviews with it's editor. I tune in to listen to news and comment about sport, not to listen to some goon banging on about some bloody quiz where you can get some tart to undress a bit!

What did he do/say, just out of interest?

He was just giving it the large one to all and sundry, as in 'look at me I'm the best talkshow host in the country, i write for The Sun, blah blah blah'. He is an arrogant wanker.

Like Sully, I was listening to the interview in question and Gaunt was completely out of order. He latched onto the 'nazi' thing and just wouldn't let it go. To be fair to the bloke from the Council, he was pretty restrained in the face of Gaunt's onslaught and Gaunt did not like that at all - he loves to provoke a reaction and then cuts callers off if they start getting the better of him.

Talksport is much better off without him and Ian Collins, who is doing the morning show at the moment, is way better.

That's an outstanding bit of news. I heard that broadcast at the time a couple of weeks ago, and was hoping, praying that the councillor complained. Normally Gaunt is so clever at being a thoroughly unpleasant, prejudiced bigot but not going over the line and getting himself into trouble. This time he crossed it, and knew it. He could have apologised at the time, but chose not to.
