Heard him on the radio this morning and he actually sounded sincere and reasonably eloquent (for a scouser). His problems seem to be predominantly booze related and he's been off the sauce for 10 months. Time will tell!

It's one thing being rehabilitated but role model? I don't think many parents would want their children to follow his lead

Hum, as ever the Beeb seem to have cherry-picked a few choice quotes from what was a pretty interesting interview.

Basically, he said that he deserves all the flak he gets because of what he has done. However, he has given up drinking (the catalyst in many of his previous misdemenors) and wants to turn his life around. He also recognises that he needs to do this to save his career.

He also said that he would like to be a role model for people wanting to turn their lives around, but recognised he isn't one yet.

Quite a frank interview - good luck to him if he is genuine.

No reason why he can't change his ways.He knows he has been a bloody idiot and perhaps going down was a wake up call for him which he needed. He could quite easily turn it all around and become a role model for the youngsters.
The biggest wankers in football are Lee Hughes and the Plymouth keeper. You can't bring back the dead now.

I'm not convinves he will change his ways and I hope he continues to be booed on a football field for a long time. However that role model quote seems to be being taken really out of context. He didn't say he was a role model, he said he wanted kids who had been in trouble like him to see him as an inspiration to get their lives back on track. I hope he realises how lucky he is to be in a profession where his financial value is worth more than any moral stand.
