Somewhere off the M1
Press the red button and Listen to the Radio Five Coverage, its much better - they have Terry Butcher as co-commentator and hes pretty good.

did you get when we scored...

'england have scored but more importantly, scholes has broken his duck'

was that really the more pressing concern on YOUR mind?? :jester:

i didn't agree witha lot of wat royle said half way through the 1st half i wasn't worried about being 1 down cos scholsey and owen were getting into dangerous positions and the midfield and the boy wonder were playing the balls around i had faith in us scoring but he kept on about us looking out of sorts!!!

Joe Royle was completely and utterly rubbbish last night. What was he on? He seemed to think Croatia were the better side up until we scored. We had the best of the first five minutes, went behind against the run of play and then it just looked like a matter of time until we scored. He was being soooo negative it was unbelievable. :censored:

I watched the highlights with the much maligned Sir Bobby in the co-commentators seat and he knew the score - England were on top.

The only change I would make for Portugal - drop Royle! :clap2:

as 10cc say, not in hove
only a minute ot two before we scored, despite totally dominating the match, motson (it was him?) and royle had us out of the competition, desparately needing something and predicting major changes at h/t. a few minutes later, completely different story from them , controlled pressure blah blah blah.

I was gonna start a thread about this today because Royles co-commentary last night was appalling. When we were 1-0 down I was satisfied with our performance as we were passing and looking to attack all the time. But he slated everything about us saying there was no-one taking game by scruff of neck etc and even started slagging off Erikkson for not standing up and shouting at the players.
Then when a Croatia guy tries a chip from 40 yards which sails well over its "fantastic vision!!" I mean what the f*** was the guy on?

I find the "radio" commentary is just a bit ahead of the action. They describe things just before they happen, and I find it ruins it a bit.

I agree it's the best commentary though.

There are two execellent things about Joe Royle though:

1) he isn't Bobby Robson.
2) he won't be found sitting next to Clive Tyldesley.

The radio commentary is better, but Alan Green did say, when we were 1-0 down, "I have a bad feeling about this game". Terry Butcher was having none of it...

Better not leave any razor blades in the home dressing room at Ipswich in case we're 1-0 up there at half-time.

What was Royle on last night?

Royle was rubbish but far, far worse was the buffoon Ian Wright....

Try having the TV on the terrestrial station - the feeds are more or less the same. I find cable to be about half a second slower.

I'm in total agreement!

Most summarisers are fairly poor. Joe Royle isn't one of the worst though - try David Pleat :nono:

Terry Butcher and Gavin Peacock and the ex Leeds manager of yesteryear whose name escapes me are the best three in my opinion.

Clive Tyldesley is awful too, in Latvia v Czech's, at about 70mins, he goes, they just arent going to find a way through(about the Czechs), then once the Czech's have gone ahead, it was only a matter of time

I'm a fan of Jim Beglin. Does a great job.

Steve Claridge is always good for a laugh when he's on five live, but I don't think he's gone to Portugal. Stan the Man was suprisingly good until he took dogging up full time.

Still miss the comedy genius that is Big (w)Ron(g) :censored:

Yes, I like Jim Beglin too. He's about the only decent one on ITV - he also appears on Fivelive occasionally still

Yeah it's a shame he's not there. He could have cast his expert eye over how all the niggers have adapted better to the warm climate, how the dirty wogs and spics are just cheating their way into the knockout stages, how Thierry Henry's French temperement is preventing him scoring goals and what a great player Silvestre is (obviously nothing to do with him being a Man Utd player) even though he appears to be GASH in this tournament to us lesser mortals.

ahhh simster. you recall the huge bias he had towards Man Utd during the days when they actually did anything on the european stage.

I hate to say this, but all the wide array of disappointing commentary teams at euro2004 almost makes me wish Andy Gray and Martin Tyler were doing the commentary, and I used to hate both of them
