Not at all. Ipswich finished 3rd last season and 15th this - a drop of 12 places. We finished 21st last season and 24th this - a drop of only 3 places. Also, Ipswich probably invested a lot more in trying to get into the Prem than we did trying to stay up.

Hit the nail on the head there, Also Royle should really have got them promoted last year.

I think you will find Ipswich invested very little. They lost half their team from last season, Davis, Miller, Kuqi, Bent etc and put very little money in. When they bought Currie from us it was the first time they'd paid a fee for some time, they've paid for Parkin and Lee this season but still not a lot. If you went to the away game half their team was made up of teenagers from theit academy.

Just goes to show if you haven't got the quality of players...you're f***ed. Or is this another good manager becoming bad overnight?

Has a ring of the 06-07 season at the Albion I predict.

From The Ipswich Evening Star forum:

"I have been a town fan for many years , joe royal is a quality manager , in football today it is all too common to blame a manager and not the players , kelvin davis , tommy miller both left to join sunderland after we failed in the play-offs and look they will be back at portman road next season .......

in my view get rid of david sheepshanks " (Chairman) "not the manager , we planned for relegation and suddenly we had no money , where did it go ,

joe royal did a brilliant job with the budget he had its not his fault if all these so called players ( on big money ) dont perform ....

Sounds Familiar?

He has been talking about retiring for a long time though.
