I disagree about the lack of effort, count how many times our full backs just booted the ball over the top towards the corner flags for him to chase after. I thought he worked pretty hard, he stayed central, he moved sideways, he did a lot of running about.

He does need to develop that little bit of nous to get more joy out of defenders, the amount of little pulls and pushes he was getting, enough to knock him off his stride, but not enough to warrant a foul. He will need to beef up a bit if he is to play that target man role, but that will come with age.

I think a loan out would do him good, let him learn the game out of the spotlight of people like us moaning, it's certainly worked for a lot of our youngsters.

He has NO talent and very little commitment from what I have seen in half a dozen games. Does not have the heart for a scrap, no pace and has never scored a goal. Not looking too rosy for him. I think he would make a better defender like his old man.

1st time this season I've seen him, looked one paced and had absolutely no belief that he was going to win any of the many headers he lost. Ball skills and control looked good though. Out of his depth yesterday but as I say, only seen him once so maybe he just didn't have a good game.

I have never booed any Albion player or team off the pitch and will never do, what is the point, it won't help anyone to improve their game.

As for Gatting Jnr, maybe a loan out would do him some good but please not Crawley, having seen them play yesterday I think it might completely destroy the young man.

How some of you can judge a 19 year old with less than 10 games under his belt, I'll never know :O

Typical NSC Im afraid, and its pathetic. The same NSC that slagged off Darius Henderson who is now playing for a Premiership club, the same NSC that slagged off Chris Iwelumo who is now comfortably proving himself in the championship, and the same NSC that slagged off CKR who is now playing in the Prem. There are countless other examples.

Gatting is 19 years old ffs. Give the boy some encouragement. He will come good.

It appears that Gatting is a rather nervous chap lacking a bit of confidence. So I can imagine him being booed off the pitch has done him the world of good.

How much good service did he get yesterday?

Too many balls were lumped into the corners or hit too long.

Gee, he's 19 years old and all of you Championship Manager gamers think that he's crap and can't make it.

Some players come in and do well from day one, others take more time. Compare Cox to Robinson. Dean has come in and made an impact straight away; Jake is only just beginning to.

Joe hasn't set the world alight yet, but he's still learning his trade. I'm not a good enough judge of players to be able to say whether or ot they will make it, but people with more knowledge of the game than most of you seem to want to give him a chance. Guess what, I think they might have a better idea than most of you.

I saw Joe take on and beat two defenders to earn us an equaliser at Blackburn ,then fight his way through in extra time to get the winner. This performance earned him a first team place at the end of last season when people on this board were raving about him being an excelent prospect.
What has changed give the lad time. In engineering you don't expect a young lad with little experience to perform the same way as someone older and wiser(you can't teach experince you can only learn it)

Hither (sometimes Thither)
I simply thought he was a bit of a big badger who couldn't outpace a defender, so to endlessly launch floated 45 yarders into the corner for him to chase seemed the dumb approach. He is good in the air, i thought, when he is not being bullied by an eight-foot central oaf years his elder around the centre circle. We build more slowly and allow him to muscle his endeavour in the box when a decent ball comes in. He won't be able to outwit with such virginal pace and rotten cherried solitude.
I am happy to give him time.

Trouble is the Albion are forced to push a large number of the youngsters through, some of them before they're quite ready. Doesn't make Joe Gatting a bad player by any means, just one that could do with a more structured progression through the ranks.

It's not really doing the youngsters any favours, chucking them all straight into League One from the youth team.

Then again, it's the cheap option.

the point about gatting was the lack of effort, its one thing to be not match fit but quite another not to try. Far too pedestrian throughout the whole game and if you or i had been given the shirt upfront against a team like northampton yesterday we would have come off that pitch puffing like a steam train and played our guts out, knowing we wouldnt get a better chance to shine. He wasnt good enough yesterday. Shouldnt boo a boy though.

Apparently at 16 years old Mike Gatting was destined to be a footballer and Steve Gatting was destined to be a cricketer funny how it reversed itself. Both were on Arsenal and Middlesex books.

ummm, not sure how we would have done with Jabba in our team instead of Steve, don't reckon we would have got on too well with referees...
