Hull City are trying to sack record signing Jimmy Bullard after giving notice to terminate his £45,000-a-week contract.


Bullard, 32, has been suspended for a month following an incident - thought to be related to breaching rules over alcohol - at a preseason training camp in Slovenia.

It is understood the midfielder had been pushing for a payoff of around £1million to end his two-and-a-half year stay at Hull.


City paid Fulham £5m for Bullard in January 2009 and he signed a deal until June 2013.


He has already cost over £10m in transfer fees and wages and Hull are keen to get him off their wage bill.


Bullard can appeal against his sacking, and legal experts believe the case could set a precedent.


Adrian Hoggarth, head of employment law at London solicitors Prolegal, said: 'The sacking of a player is almost unprecedented in football.

'Clubs see players as assets that can be traded for a fee, and only when a player becomes a liability will a club seek to cut their losses.

'Other clubs are likely to watch any appeal eagerly. If Hull's sacking stands, it could open the floodgates.'

Bullard, what a good idea - and hot on the heels of the Dave Kitson thread, a right pair of role models they would be for our dressing room. Yes Bullard looked OK against us at Portman Road but he then spent the rest of the season making the wrong sort of headlines. Mind you would be fun to see Charlie Oatway 'having a quiet word' with them.
