Delighted for Steele, especially as he's such a RDZ fanboy. I remember watching the Sunderland documentary on Netflix where he had an absolutely torrid time. So pleased for him that he has recalibrated at the Albion and now he's playing PL football and may very well be at Wembley soon. Get in there Jason!

What a redemption story eh? In the Blackburn team that gets relegated from the Championship, joins Sunderland and, after some poor results loses his no.1 to Robben Ruiter and gets relegated with Sunderland too. Confidence completely shot to bits…joins Brighton as very much keeper no.3 behind Ryan and Button in the Hughton era. Potter of course comes in and favours Sanchez as his key man… but Steele keeps his head down, and earns his stripes in cup matches. Finally, he finds a manager who he seems to like working with, and earns a shot to show his worth against West Ham and get a well deserved clean sheet.

It is interesting how Steele and Sanchez compare. Watching both at Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively, Steele definitely seemed more assured and comfortable, there were times where I felt more nervous watching Sanchez’s passing and thought it could easily lead to a Bournemouth goal.

I still bloody love Sanchez and think he’s a massively underrated keeper in the Prem. Even with his mistakes, I would be a bit nervous to lose him. But its still great to see Steele do so well when quite a few would have written him off entirely.

Made 2 saves, which he would expect to make, didn’t have any issues really all game. Can’t fault him at all today. Good to make the odd appearance and be our cup goalkeeper but I doubt he will be starting next week at Elland Road or against Palace at home

You may say just 2 saves but those two saves were game changing moments at 1-0 up, that’s what top performing goalkeepers do, and that essentially laid the foundations for the easy win.

Love Sanchez but also gotta rate Steeles ‘steel’ and professionalism, good problem to have, I suspect it might be a good kick up the arse for big Rob as well.

Great performance from JS but that doesnt mean if he starts every game now it'll be the same levels. We'd be foolish to bin off Sanchez, and make him feel unwanted. The best thing we can gain out of this situation is creating some healthy competition between the 2, which in turn raises both their level of performance.

Good piece, but I think it is an error to assume it was dumb luck that we had a keeper with Steele's skill set at the club, or that we wanted a manager that would value those skills.

Absolute class tonight - shot stopping and especially distribution. Another captain on the pitch too - we have so many players on the pitch who lead us in different ways - we have a lot of big balls!

As I said on the match thread, he has been a huge bonus for us recently and RDZ deserves massive credit for bringing him in.
