Jamie has often been celebrated on NSC as an example of an idiot.
He was basically bullied in that thread.
And yet now people are talking of sending something to his family?
Do me a favour. I mean, What would the note say? “hi. We are some anonymous football fans who ten years ago were quite nasty to your son. Have some flowers”.
Of course it’s sad a young man has died but the piousness and earnestness of some on here is a bit much, especially given that Jamie has been in the stocks in the gold section for yonks.

Maybe for you it seems a ridiculous idea but for the ones who didn't participate in that thread, it might seem like a nice thing to do. It's an apology for the twatish behaviour played out by a group of lonely middle aged losers on a young teenager who only came on here to try and get people to join his football forum.

His passing has made some people realise how bad it was that some of the NSC folk were getting self gratification out of basically bullying someone. The fact it went on gold just shows how pathetic this forum can get at times.

Letting Jamie's family know everyone here now feels bad for their ****ish behaviour will do more good than bad.

Do you not think his family would have been put through a lot of stress from all those deliveries sent to his house?

Reminds me a bit of those stories where people get scammed/blackmviled for showing nude pics online. Jamie says something homophobic, so NSC bullies him relentlessly knowing they have the excuse of being anti-homophobic.

This used to happen to me when I'd post abut my dislike towards zionism. People would use that to call me anti semtic. GB (the mod) is still reminding me of it to this day. These comments were made nearly a decade ago. NSC really does have some right nasty thuckers on here. Hopefully Jamies passing might help them with their inept self awareness, which might result in them being a tad nicer too.

Oh no :(

Agreed - it doesn't feel right to leave the thread there - I'll get it moved.

Why ? The poor lad has passed away

He has the most famous thread on this site and you want to erase him from history ?

Have a re think

It wasn’t last week was it .
a nice thought but doubt they’d appreciate it , probably think it was a piss take

It doesn't matter. They're owed an apology for the harassment they must've been put through by some knob heads on here..

I appreciate your good intentions, but I'm not sure that is a time in his life they want to revisit, especially so recently after his death?

Kid says offensive things on the internet when he was 20, and then gets random things delivered to him as a reaction. A few days pass and it stops.

A few years pass and Jamie has grown up and is getting on with his life. His silly behaviour in his early 20's is forgotten... except on NSC, who decides to send his parents a reminder of his behaviour shortly after his death.... No. Not a nice thing to do, despite good intentions.

I understand how bringing back memories like that for the family would be painful. I just saw it as an apology which would help them to see that horrible situation in a better light now he's passed away. He was just a teenager (17/18 years old) when NSC when full on psycho on him and his family's home address. That must've been really horrible and distressing for them.

I suppose it would take character to stand up and say sorry to his family, something I doubt the users who enjoyed bullying Jamie obtain.

I agree with this. The thread has a place in history as a lesson of its time. Yes it was funny. Yes it was bullying. Yes Jamie probably learned a valuable lesson. Yes the people who posted on it from NSC probably learned a lesson. Yes it's a tragedy when someone young dies. My personal opinion is that the thread should be retained but with an inserted first post explaining the context and Jamie's later death.

The thread has a lot of different things involved with it.

Firstly, he gave as good as he got to start with, but wasn't internet savvy enough to realise himself, that if you are going to start giving homophobic and other kinds of abuse that you are not always anonymous on the internet.

Secondly, the thread created a 'bystander' effect. There were very few people on the thread who said it was going too far, as well as the fact that nobody actually knew for sure if he was getting random stuff ordered for him or if it was just internet bravado.

I didn't participate in the thread but I felt sorry for him and felt that it served him right for being silly, at the same time. As I said, that thread was my introduction to this forum and rightly or wrongly it had me crying with laughter. It was six of one and half a dozen of the other to start with. I genuinely think that, if he could have got the same info from posters on here that he would have done the same in return though.

I don't think the thread should be erased and i think leaving this one and somehow putting it with with the original thread is a good idea. We can then read them and take what lessons we individually want from it. It's very odd putting a face to the name though and that is another point that people should think about when everyone is having a go at each other on here.

What a load of sanctimonious bollocks. If Jamie and/or his family are owed an apology, then the time to have done that would’ve been about 8-9 years ago. Doing it after you’ve learned that the bloke’s died just smacks of insincerity.

I can’t find the original thread, but I hope it’s not been deleted. Jamie has left a legacy.

You’ve lost your son. A pain I can’t imagine going through; the hardest thing any parent could ever have to deal with. Days turn to weeks which roll on in to months. It doesn’t get easier, but you learn to live with the anguish that you know you’ll never be able to extinguish.

Then one day there’s a knock on the door; the door that Jamie will never walk through again. The thought flashes across your mind so quickly but you feel the tremor of your bottom lip almost instinctively. You push the dark thoughts deep down inside again - not today; not now. You open the door to a bouquet of flower thrusted at you by a impatient delivery drivers. You take them inside and place them down. There’s a card. You slide a finger inside and slowly open it up.

“Hi, it’s the bunch of strangers from the other side of the country who depending on your outlook either took a silly joke too far or harassed and cyber bullied your son over 48 hours nearly 10 years ago. We heard he died so we’ve decided nows a good time to be sorry. Here’s some random stuff we’ve sent to your door for old times sake. LMFAO. Bye”

Jesus wept, some people.

With a more thoughtfully and tactfully written message, though, it could be very different.

The internet is not real life. People can play different characters, or choose to hurt others who they wouldn't dream of if they met them personally.

RIP to the person involved

I suggest, "Your son is a legend on our forum, his name will live on in NSC Gold, or if you prefer, we can bin his thread".

I think I must have joined just too late to get the 'Jamie' thing - I recognised that the verb 'to Jamie' was in common use on here, and I sort of guessed it was something to do with putting someone in their place.
Had a look on NSC Gold (something else on NSC I wasn't aware of until today!) but couldn't find it - not helped, I guess, by the fact I don't know what I was looking for! Or perhaps Bozza has already deleted it, as someone on here suggested? I'm not sure it should be deleted, btw - it's history anyway, and it's not as if it caused the poor lad's untimely death - RIP Jamie, and condolences to friends and family.
So - could somebody please point me in the direction of the relevant thread, or, if it is no more, give me a brief run-down on what it was all about? Thanks.

What it may show is something very positive coming out of Jamie's sad death, remorse.

2 wrongs don't make a right. Something a fair few on here at the time ignored

While I appreciate what you are saying do you not think it would strike his parents as absurd that they receive a collective apology from 800 odd people signed off from "The mob that sent you all those pizzas and skips a decade ago"? Only marginally less creepy than getting a valentines card off your rapist.

Explain how it would come across as creepy?

A gift and condolences nearly a year after his death from a load of fans of a team he didn’t support, whose only connection with the poor lad is that a bunch of posters gave the boy a drubbing nearly a decade ago when, in the folly of youth, he posted some regrettable nonsense on our fan website.
I would imagine it would be baffling to them. And confusion causes upset.
