James Tilley only getting on for the last few seconds of stoppage time. What's the point?

What does Tilley gain from that tiny cameo? What does Hughton learn from him getting on just in time for the full time whistle?

For some reason this has really wound me up.

It sends a message to JFC that he isn't quite good enough by getting replaced by a 16 year old

Does seem strange. Maybe the thinking was to get the 'debut' out of the way so that there will be less pressure next time?

Throw in playing CMS from the bench and having Best on the bench and you have to question the manager.

Awful decision to bring him on for five seconds. Should have given him at least 20 minutes to see what the lad can do.

Utterly pointless in a game which had no baring on things. CMS is leaving and why bring him on? Should have Kept O'Grady on and brought Tilley on.

Playing Walton was a good move. Halford at right back was a shrewd move and credit for Hughton there.

A good point but disappointed overall

Your not alone!!!!

Appalling that he should get 5 seconds on the pitch.......................WTF was the point.

And what was the point of only taking 1 DS lad up there. FFS take a few and give them all an opportunity in some way.............

He's 16 for christ's sake, he's there for the experience more than anything as an example to both himself and others in the Development Squad that if you work hard and apply yourself the manager will consider your inclusion into a match day squad. He's had a little taster and the idea will be to make him hungrier to succeed. He's not there as a tactical alternative to our goal shy 'strikers'.

Pretty much this. He is 16 and not ready to play in the first team. Hughton took Tilley on the trip for experience and was bothered enough to engineer him making his technical "debut" which the young lad will have appreciated.

Yes, but as well as the experience of being involved with the match day squad, surely the sensible thing would have been to give him 10 to 15 minutes. Each time you go up a level the pace is different and space is at a premium, by not touching the ball he has gained nothing in footballing terms.

At this moment in time, I'm fairly pro-Hughton, as he hasn't had chance to form his own team, but with that substitution he has gone down a lot in my estimation.
