I wasn't comparing Jack Straw to Germany in the 1930's (I think, to a point he makes a fair comment). I was referring to the Tabloids' sensationlist daily headlines mentioned by H Block.

I agree. Unlike most on here (and I'm not trying to be patronising), I live in a very multicultural area and the vision of Britain as portrayed by the tabloids is very different from what I see every day.

I'm in walking distance of perhaps 2 or mosques, but its not something that concerns me on a daily basis.

It wasn't a very badly timed statement, because he's not stupid to know how the tabloid press would react.

This is the single thing I hate most about modern Britain.

Politicians can't say what they think because of the press, and then choose to do so because of the press.

Indeed, they know and the use it to sensationalise or attract attention. Not much better than Madonna in the 80's.
Attention-seeking stuff.

Anne Widdicombe (bless her) made a very interesting point on Question Time a few weeks backs where muslims had demonstrated against the Pope's recent statements with placards saying "Allah will rule Rome" or words to that effect.

This was done outside Westmister Abbey (I believe during a Sunday service) and the point she made was if she stood outside a Mosque with a placard saying "Rome rules Allah" then she would probably be arrested.

I really think we have moved into a very politically correct nightmare that will get worse and worse.

And before you ask this is in no way a racialist rant just pointing out the political issues at present.

I think that it isa lot of nothing, and I do not usually support anything B liars government do.

He only said that he would feel more comfortable if they were to remove them when visiting his surgery, so that he could see their facial expression when they were telling him something. He could then gauge their sincerity about the subject in question, based upon the eye contact with each other.

So? I don't care if their custom is to decapitate all infidels, it doesn't mean we respond in kind by doing the same to them.
Remember, these people are apparently the ones who have come here to integrate away from their own home culture into a country that supposedly invited them. If we allow them, no point in pushing them to reject something they have already made a step away from anyway.

your really not too bright are you?Is Jack straw seeking revenge for a westerner having their veil removed as your anology suggests? And you'll probably find that amost Muslims & their descendants are here for purely economic reasons, nothing to do with making a step away from their "home culture" What you see with them bringing their culture with them is racial resentment growing to an extent that even a minor request from a leading politician is siezed upon by the pc brigade in order to satisfy their need to show how tolerant they/you are
