RIP Jack. He is the first one I remember in a long line of attacking wing halves (Number 4's) since. The previously mentioned half back line of Bertolini - Jennings - Burtenshaw, then became Bertolini - Gall - Turner.

He played - and played really well - in a time before most people spoke of club legends. But I’m one of the old blokes who saw him play game after game consistently well, all skill and heart, and a player and man who deserved the legend title.

R.I.P.

Shankly knew him from playing in Scotland and signed him for Workington prior to moving to Liverpool. I believe Shankly was going to sign him for Liverpool but he came to Brighton - very much our gain and Liverpool’s loss. He was my favourite of the wing backs at the time. A craggy Scot who had a long career and over 250 games for us. RIP Jack. One of the great names in BHAFC history.
