Is there anybody left who seriously doubts he is anything other than a TOP bloke?

He's an absolute legend.

A few misdemeanours when he was younger, but, hey, we've all been there. These days he is a top professional in everthing he does. Remeber the days when he was mocked for being rather thick - when he speaks now, he always says the right things.

I can't think of a celebrity who uses their fame in such a positive way as David Beckham. I also think he's one of the few footballers who fully understands the privilige he's had in playing for England, as well as 2 of the world's biggest clubs, and knows that every fan in the stadium would give the nuts away to get the chance to do what he does. I actually reckon that he would have played for free for the last 5 years, just for the pleasure, in the same way that many of us do on a Sunday.

With regard to any relationship misdemeanors, that is personal and we have no idea what sort of state his marriage was in at the time, the only person who should judge him on this stuff is Posh.

No problem with Beckham at all. In fact the more i see of him these days the more I like him.

My issue is with that spindly, talentless, hag-witch that is like some ghastly human Remora fish sucking the will to live out of him and anyone else that gets near her disgusting, veiny tentacles.

Posh?? Give me a break. She's the sort of common vacous, brainless bint that is out in every market town on a Friday night who after three glass of Pinot and a shot of malibu would give John Seargent one off the wrist.

Hag.

does everyone remember that 2-2 draw with Greece? Beckham was one of the only England players who was prepared to stand up and be counted. Probably the best individual performance i've ever seen

Against GREECE. These big performances were conspicuous by their absence against genuine World Class sides.

Don't get me wrong, he was a fantastic servant to his countryand everything else that went with it. If Paul Scholes looked like David Beckham, he would have been equally as famous.

What amazes me with the guy is the way he turned it around from being the most hated man in England, i couldnt stand him after his sending off vs Argentina, but he faced the criticism face on at Man u when could have run off abroad, and then turned it around to become England captain and best i have ever seen us have.
Also he has played for 3 of the biggest clubs in world in Man u, real madrid and Ac Milan and has sexy wife and seems a great dad, as well as that got millions and looks but he still isnt seen as being arrogant if anybody in sport should be entitled to be arrogant of themselves its Becks.
Good on him he deserves all the money and success he gets, like people say is great ambassador for England and is like another Diana he will be always remembered.
I went to a England game at wembley and when he took corners the amount of flashing lights went off when he was in that corner was insane when another player like Gerrard took it, was about 15% amount of photos being taken by the flashs was insane.
Just sad he couldnt play for us in this world cup as i still think as a influence sub he could have been a game winner

Common as Mook - i dont think you understand this isnt purely on playing skill or looks, its the way he does his life, scholes is a total different guy, he is shy and stays out of lime light and as a person isnt one of these guys who people remember and not just because he is ginger etc, its just the way Becks has run his life and what been through and way deals with things, isnt many in world who could do it same way i believe, a real one off.

Totally different characters and Terry has a list of misdemeanors the length of the Eurotunnel.

Nit being entirely serious but just playing devil's advocate considering the amount of moralising that went on here with regards to his infidelity (before the inevitable retorts, Brudge and his wife had split up before the affair started).

I do understand thank you very much. I was commenting directly on a football based post from Turienzo's Lovechild.

He is a truly great ambassador for the sport etc etc, but not all that as a player IMHO

I admired Beckham for the way he came back from the WC sending off and the abuse he got the following season. However I always thought he was a bit over rated as player who happened to excel at free kicks and crossing the ball whilst having lots of energy. I'm just delighted he won't be turning out for us in his twilight as a player, which at one stage was a real worry to me.

He has found the niche for the rest of his life as an ambassador in the Bobby Charlton mode, not that interesting, not much to say but everyone loves him

Edit, just seen Common as Mook stealing my thunder and saying much the same thing.

it may well have "only" been against greece (who won euro 2004 two years later), but on the day it seemed that ONLY beckham (others had half decent games, nigel martyn for example made some decent saves) gave a solitary shit. Scholes and Gerrard for example were basically anonymous. He carried the team that day, as he did many times for england

the fact that he's now played for 3 massive clubs (barcelona aside probably the 3 biggest in the world) and is held with such high regard at all 3 and has won pretty much everything at club level suggests that he MAY have been a decent player

*sigh*

I never said he wasn't a decent player. Henry was undoubtedly world class but sometimes failed to perform in the biggest games. Same goes for Becks.

I admire Beckham because he is always harshly getting criticised like in this thread. But he has been a great servant to England for the last 12 or so years and always gave it his all. The same can't be said of Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, etc. who almost always disappoint.

Still had the balls to take that penalty against Argentina, even after the stick he got in 1998.

I would call that a big performance against a world class side.

He was Englands penalty taker. It would have been outrageous if he'd nit taken it.
