Strangely over the last couple of years for no particular reason i’ve been drinking less and less alcohol to the point where i’m quite happy with soft drinks when i go out.

I’m 54, touchwood in good health and i use to love slamming the booze down. I’ve have never been told to knock it on the head and i use to feel quite worried many years ago if there was a possibility i couldn’t have a drink. Nowadays I’ll have one beer before a dinner out, somehow make that last the entire sitting and have water or coco cola for the rest of the night. I’m just not that fussed anymore.

For some reason almost like someone has flicked a switch i really don’t get excited or even enjoy drinking alcohol now, i know some people who struggle with the amount they drink would love this conundrum but i wondered if anyone else has crossed this pathway.

I find these days I’m happy with one 98% of the time, but then occasionally still find that one drink comes in eleven glasses, and I haven’t been able to identify the trigger.

Sometimes I’m just terribly, terribly thirsty. Last night I had a beer, and didn’t want another.

I've gone a similar direction, in general everyday situations...... though I do like a good few at the football and have a well stocked booze cupboard.

I've never gone off it, just the after effects and hangovers that last longer and are worse with age.

If that didn't happen I doubt I would've started to drink less than before.

For me it tends to depend who I’m with and the time of the year. In the football season one beer before the match is fine (I’m driving anyway) then I can go the rest of the week on a couple of glasses of wine with a meal on a Saturday night.

If I meet a mate I’ll have 3 or 4 beers but this is only every few months.

In the summer I like to sit in the garden in the evening with a cold beer, chilling.

Never liked spirits

Must admit if I’ve got a day planned when I know I’m going to have a few, then I’m more bothered about suffering the day after rather than looking forward to the actual day. Not right is it.
Have been out a few times lately and opted for a zero alcohol beer and found them surprisingly ok.

If you ever wake up in the night feeling thirsty, check with your doctor.

Don't lose hope. We can fix this. Come along to a meeting of our wine club. We meet over in the park most mornings from 8am

So with this in mind I fail to see a problem and I envy you.

I “like a drink” to say the least, fortunately as a professional driver during the working week my hand is forced to stay dry. At the weekend though….bloody ell.

[deleted: I’ve probably said too much]

To lighten the mood this 30 second video sort of sums me up.

Yep, I don't drink much anymore.
It helps that I've always hated drinking at home.

I surprised myself in Amsterdam and Athens that I still had 'it' in me.

I don’t see my new found love of not drinking a concern I just find it a bit strange that i’ve gone from being a heavy social drinker and at home, to not drinking at home at all and only the desire for minimum consumption when out 🤔

Same with me nearly five years ago. I found I wasn’t enjoying alcohol and also that I found the next day harder if I had a few (not even rat arsed).

I didn’t mean to stop altogether but found that I wasn’t missing it so haven’t started again. I don’t drink the low or no alcohol stuff - if I wanted a beer I’d have a beer but I just stopped enjoying the taste.
