Once again when faced with any sort of problem, the first place to turn to is here, so here goes with my latest question which will have most of you laughing at me for being a dumb twat!

When setting up a new account for the other half on ITunes, all my music appears on her account and when she buys some music it appears on mine which in turn annoyingly downloads it all onto both ipods. Despite the fact I have set up 2 completely separate accounts (both on the same computer).

Sorry if its obvious but I cant see how to get round it. Ta.

Timbo,

It depends what type of system you are using i.e. if you have Windows XP, it's easier to set up another log in account on the computer. Then create a new itunes account whilst logged into the new Windows user account. The only problem is once you have done this and plugged the new ipod in, you may lose the music off the new ipod. Either back up your existing itunes library to an external drive or burn the music to disk and then load it into the new itunes account. Hope this helps or someone else replies who knows how to do it better than me! Good Luck!

I've got a similar problem in that I have an iPhone as well as the iPod and only want to cherry pick the best out of 60gb for the phone.
Apple say you can do this by holding down the shift key whilst opening iTunes but I found that that created an entirely new library with bugger all in it.
I have sort of solved it by syncing the music manually and making a playlist just for the phone and only loading what i want on the phone into that playlist. Fiddly but it does work

You can stop the ipods updating or syncing automatically in the options or on the main ipod page whenplugged in, that'll stop your music downloading onto hers and hers onto yours, you then have to click and drag the music onto the ipod whenever you want it on there.

iTunes accounts recognise computers. Music bought on her account is authorized to play on that computer, and music bought on your account is authorized to play on that computer. I believe the ipods are linked to that computer and so any songs authorized for that computer will play on any ipod linked with that computer.

On XP and vista, different user accounts on the computer are viewed by programmes as different computers, so if you create a new account for the missus she would have to sign in to itunes on there, which would be her second authorized computer (I believe you're allowed to authorized 5 of them)

Im not sure if you can still do it, but got an email from southern fm couple of days back, if you set up an account which takes 2 mins you get a code for free songs. I think you can win 3, 5 or 50 songs or something, sorry if its finished but worth a try.
