Mclaren has to hold his hand up for this shambles as he is at the helm - f***ing disgrace IMHO

I think that's one of the reasons I'm saying it now. If one manager can't get a supposedly "world class" group of players going then I would blame him, but when two can't (and a former top quality England manager), then things start to become a bit clearer

These supposedly World Class players can't even string 3 frigging passes together - always been the same nothing ever changes - no technique typical english football.

Apart from under venables when he did seem to get them passing it well.

England are extremely overrated, and our media try to portray the likes of Ashley Cole, Lampard and Rio Ferdinand as some of the world's top players.

They are not - they are good, international class players but do not get the job done for their country week in week out like, say, the likes of Henry, Ballack, Thuram, Cannavaro, Pirlo, Vieira, Podolski etc.

Ashley Cole, in particular, is only in the team now on reputation - his recent form has been shit.

I actually agree with your sentiment. We're not a world class team, and have probably not been a world class team since 1970. At the risk of repeating myself, if England wants to produce world class players it needs to look at ways of tapping the vast untapped potential in our youngsters. As I've said before, the FA should look at months of birth of our best players, and they should look at the backgrounds of our players.

You'll find that if you're "middle class" (who make up the largest group of football fans by far) and you were born between May and August, you've got no chance of making it to the top in football.

I suspect it's the old problem of the players not understanding what the manager wants them to do. In the end they end up doing nothing and running around like headless chickens.

One of Brian Clough's famous half time team talks after Forest were getting a drubbing illustrates the point.

He came into the dressing room, all the players thought they were going to get a bollocking. He held a ball up, said "This is what the ball looks like, the other team has it at the moment, go and get it back!"

Or words to that effect.

They went out and won.

Players know how to play football, they've been doing it all their life. What most of them don't understand is complicated tactics. THey know they're own game inside out. The manager should know his players stenghts and weaknesses, pick a side and formation accordingly and then just tell them to go and play football.

The only real 'tactics' should be during set pieces IMHO.

I would agree with 2 of those.

John Terry made me laugh after being asked whether 3-5-2 confused the players. "Not at all" he said. :lolol:

This lot haven't got a braincell between them. If England are to have any success in the future we must get the one man with a brain back in the team - Owen Hargreaves.

The thing is we clearly have a bunch of very talented players. However they are overrated and we can't figure out how to get them to play as a decent team.

Yes. Ballack and Cannavaro are the only 2 I have seen doing it regularly for their country.

Hate to say it but they are a bunch of thick fuckers this lot - Rio ferdinand - FFS, John Terry, Steven Gerrad, and as for UNI boy Rooney....

Yeah, Thierry Henry's 36 goals in 80-odd matches over 8 years is a pretty ordinary effort.

And Vieira medals and facesaver against Togo a few months ago are pretty ordinary too.

But you said for their country. Henry has some shockers for France. Viera looks pretty good but not great for France.

You can say the same for Lampard and Rooney. In fact the only players who are worthy of the shirt at the moment in my opinion are Gary Neville, Crouch and Hargreaves.

Agreed, but I'd add Robinson to the list of players who deserve their place.
