Difficult to say about the trains. Usually Regional trains are cancelled except specified guaranteed trains, but there appear to be no guaranteed Regional trains between Rome and Pisa, only a few trains at either end of the line running to and from Grosseto in the middle of the line.

The fast Frecce trains usually run and some Intercities run, though only guaranteed trains are guaranteed.

The following are guaranteed trains from Roma Termini to Pisa Centrale: 09.57 Intercity, 13.57 Frecciabianca but do not expect seat reservations to be honoured on these trains! They could be a mad scrum.

The last assured train the previous evening departs 20.23 as the 21.48 is via Florence and the connecting train from Florence to Pisa is after midnight so is unlikely to run.

We are also booked on this same train 09.57 from Termini to Pisa, (and the 16.10 flight from Pisa to Birmingham that I guess you’re all on?).

Other than the helpful Italian guy on Tripadvisor, does anyone have any more information to support it being a guaranteed service?

It’s listed here, but suppose it’s no guarantee. And with no seat reservations/it being a mad scrum might look in to other options.

True, I'm big fan of expensively overpriced cheese on toast. Well remembered :)

Aside from the banal cuisine though, I'm very jealous. I'll be watching from a barstool, probably with a dirty burger.

I understand you used to have to validate a ticket before getting on a train over there. Is that still the case even with a ticket on my phone? Also for every train journey I have two tickets per person in my wallet, is this an Italian thing or do I need both?

Sorry for late reply.

No, I have no other information although still confused by the timetable saying 09.32 and the tickets saying 09.57....

We're on the 16.30 to Stansted.

We are on the 1110 to Florence with seat bookings and then the same flight as you. Any news on that train anybody?!

I think its more a Europe thing than an Italian one. I went to Berlin a few weeks ago and you needed to validate paper station bought tickets there too. However if you bought your ticket on an app on your phone then you didnt need to validate as the electronice ticket is already validated for a specific journey/date.

We pre-booked for the Friday morning. Will buy for the way into Rome once we land, as we have plenty of time and flex that day, and might choose another option e.g. bus to look around a bit.

It’s the same train 100%. The 9:34 refers to arrival time and the 9;57 is departure.

I was messaging the train company yesterday. As it’s listed as a guaranteed service it should be running. He said ticket reservations should still apply (but who knows) but said with strike days even with these guaranteed services delays are likely, but couldn’t go in to specifics about whether that’s minutes/hours etc.

Cheers for this. The train is supposed to arrive in Pisa at 1pm, so we have a couple of hours to get to the airport (for our 16.10 flight). We are hoping to have an hour looking around the centre of Pisa, but if its a bit delayed, losing that isn't the end of the world. Fingers crossed.

Anyone using Lufthansa there is a ground staff strike Thursday/Friday which may lead to a few delays.
