Following on from the 'best in brighton' threads.

Where did you used to love going which has now been swallowed up by the commercialism of this town and has since gone rubbish.

I would like to start with my old regular watering hole the Leek and Winkle. There was no need to change the place as it was always busy with a great mix of young and old, locals and stoodents etc. It is now more spacious but there are crappy low stools that hurt your back and benches that are far too low for the tables, the bar is chrome (why, i ask you) and if you ry to sit at the bar and you aren't one of the bar staffs mates you get stared at.

bastards.

I used to love going to bar centro every saturday during the division 2 promotion season. Seeing as we always won our home games there was always good reason to celebrate! And going to bar centro used to be an integral part of our post match experience. Can anyone else remember this great place, they used to do them huge drinks which were 2 shots of vodka 2 shots of tequila 2 cans of redbull with blackcurrent cordial and crushed ice! all for £5 bargain :drink:

The Gladstone / The Richmond / The Green Dragon / The Prince George - f*** me, don't get me started - this list could go on for hours.

Away from pubs, I would have to say The Level, which used to be great for a kickabout, but is now one pot-holed steaming pile of dogshit and crusties. (Yeah, I know, try and spot the difference).

Totally agree with the Dragon. (Is it now The Office?). And the leek and winkle. And what happened to The Hungry Years? Some of us like a bit of tat, we don't want everything to be turned into a Plastic O'Paddys or a pre-club gay bar.

Yep the Dragon is now the Office.

Also Grinders which used to make the best Bacon, cheese and lettuce baguettes and fantastic coffee, couldn't beat it on a warm saturday in spring. Now been swallowed up by the ever poncier fringe bar which is really f***ing expensive.

The Goldstone,

The McClusky's Cocktails

The White Admiral in Bevendean, ok it was never good but its better than a un used building,

Hotshots same as above!

Apart from all the pubs, most of which have been mentioned already, what about Churchill Square? Yes, it was long-overdue a revamp but did it have to become a clone of every other US-style shopping mall? And what a great effect it's had on the prosperity of Western Road

The White Admiral was my local for 10 years, Rivalder. Successive landlords, and the brewery, never did anything to tart the place up all the time it was open (which was one of its charms), so there was always eff-all chance of it re-opening after the flood f***ed it. :nono:
