I did my offshore survival when I was a graduate with Shell back in 1999, thats why I always understand just what it must be like to drown in a dark, freezing cold sea.

Hey, never mind, as the CU NT S at the BBC reminded us at 18:10 Barrack gave the queen an i-pod!

So all's well in the world then !

Its just a f***ing INSULT.

It's supposed to be an absolutely terrifying transfer, even for hardened oil-men.

i thik you will find that PICTURES is the most important thing in bbc television news. and only 8 deaths being reported at the moment with another 8 missing. rather tan the 16

if there are any, it bumps the story up the order. if not...........

Did my latest offshore survival course last year complete with HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) when they roll you upside down in a simulated chopper fuselage & wait for you to get out. Not much fun & this is in a warm, lit, swimming pool with emergency support divers all around.

Actually hitting the North Sea, especially in a swell or at night - no chance.

On the other hand when I am not workng offshore I have to work elsewhere so drive around 20,000 miles plus business miles a year - I'll bet I have statistically more chance of getting killed on the M25.....

Maybe you should let Ofcom know.. Barack Obama coming to meet Gordon Brown ahead of G20 when the eyes of the world are looking at London, followed by reports on the massive protests happening all over the City is a HUGE story. Not saying the tragic deaths of those poor men isn't of course but people tuned in to see Obama, if they don't get Obama Drama then they go to ITV instead.

ITV would then lead with Obama anyway.

Seems ITV have had some sort of reality check and realise that this is now the main story today. British workers, killed in the United Kingdom. Not some hot air, just DEATHS

A lot of news is about how it will affect the listener/viewer. As terrible as the crash is, the G20 has te potential to affect the lives of millions of people across the world, hence whilst it is correctly IMO the lead story everywhere (including my bulletins) at the moment.

Nobody even mentioned the 10 people that died on the roads of the UK yesterday, or the day before, or the day before that etc. etc.
