It is rather worrying
The probable line up for the MK Dons game according to www.seagulls.co.uk
Robinson CKR
Frutos Hammond Carpenter Brittain
Reid Elphick El-Abd Hart
Kuipers/Henderson
This is quite clearly, perhaps with the addition of a center back on loan the side which will start our campaign in Div 3 against Rotherham. With again more players off the wage bill this summer the club looks like they are not make significant additions to the squad. We now find ourselves going into the coming season without a recognised full back in our squad who has played a senior game of football. How McGhee can justify not offering Bagayoko a contract is beyond me, a pacey athletic full back with a left foot. His reason was that he was no better than what we have already got, how can playing Paul Reid, a right footed central midfielder who lacks a bit in pace be the preferred option.
To me all this talk of a target man is deflecting from the real problem, our forwards get terrible service and the only way for us to succeed is to sign a thug to play up front to try win headers from the aimless hoofs sent up the field. If we actually signed two full backs instead of playing Hart (center forward) Reid (central midfielder) Lynch (center back) I believe you would see a marked improvement in our performance. The wingers would be more confident to go forward a create, and the full backs might actually play some intelligent balls into the channels for the strikers to run onto. When Dodd actually played last year the difference was huge, he knocked balls that started attacks rather than hoofing the ball up field giving away possession or aimless playing sideways passes.
I think you would then start to see the best of CKR, undoubtedly the greatest talent at the club and possibly the league, I thought he looked lazy last season because he was fed up that in every game he played he was barely touching the ball and chasing lost causes. With some good service and a few decent players around him, I believe he will start to show what a great player he is.
