Isle of Dogs ,pubs.

I am looking for any info on a reasonable and decent pub on 'The Dogs' sort simple but good meals/beer clean and tidy inside. It would be for a weekend visit so even somewhere 'Up the Wharf' might be ok. One or two have said The North Pole ??

the gun is very gastro-y now and dear but great if you can get a spot out the back on the river if its a nice day.

queen of the isle would have been the best bet for a proper pub with food but that went a few years ago. real shame.

the watermans is nice that would be my choice.

Apparently reopening (or reopened) as the Great Eastern.

Had some fun evenings there in the 60s ... trad jazz band which was excellent.

The North Pole is a tiny little back street boozer. Not sure what the food is like, if indeed they do any. But when I worked on the wharf it was a welcome antidote for chain bars full of braying suits.

The North Pole is ok, but I prefer the George, which is just over the road from Crossharbour DLR station. Decent priced food. A garden too. MASSIVE picture of WInston Churchill.

The Gun is nice, but very, very over-priced. Alan Brazil goes there, which tells you all you need to know.
