A lot has been said about GOT and its coffee cup and water bottle being left in shot. Eastender's Ben Mitchell since changing Actor now magically no longer needs either of his hearing aids.

Are TV companies getting lazy, sloppy or just don't care about the product they make any more?

There have always been continuity issues and rogue items appearing on screen, nothing new.

Isn't it called 'product placement'?

“Product Placement” if the production company receives a fee.

“Continuity error” if the Director &/or Director of Photography/cinematographer do.

I'm not sure it's getting lazy, as such, I think they come out with a show which is a massive success and they feel the need to milk it dry to maximise revenue.

Very few tv projects start with writers looking at a show in terms of start, middle and end, then figure out how many episodes/series/seasons they need. They have a good idea, launch it and figure it out as they go along.
