Two famous people have just died - actor Susannah York and footballer Nat Lofthouse. If you listen to the news or look at the BBC website, they've given more prominence to the former.

Is this typical establishment bias - rating high culture over low culture? Or would she have had more impact on peoples' lives than the Lion of Vienna? Discuss.

I Guess it's that she's been in the public eye more recently. How many people have seen Nat Lofthouse play vs Susannah York act?

Not sure I agree with your premise. Susannah York looks more prominent right now because the news has only just broken, whereas the news about Nat Lofthouse broke last night. But I've just seen a nice piece on BBC TV News about him and nothing on Susannah York, yet.

There is more people would have heard of Ms York I would think. I suspect there's a fair number of footie fans, particularly those under 30, who have never heard of Lofthouse. I'm 48 and he's only a name to me.

I didn't fancy her when she was a spotty teenager but wasn't she quite hot in "The Killing of Sister George", which is well worth watching.

Thanks, I'd forgotten about Sister George - will revisit that one - Beryl Reid was brilliant as the fading old lesbian soap star.:albion2:
