Is this commentator unprofessional?

Just hearing the Carlisle 'World' live commentary, where home players are referred to by their first names, or even nicknames. "Good ball from Simon there... Well done, Murph. etc..." And you hardly hear Albion players mentioned by name, almost certainly because the comms haven't bothered to learn them.

Whereas our very own Andrew Hawes always sounds professionally neutral, describing the play objectively, in true BBC fashion. And makes a special point of learning the opposition players' names.

Or do you actually PREFER the local radio commentator to be speaking from the home fan's perspective?

A mix of both. You want them to know the oppo players and to describe things (fairly)neutrally but the occasional comment in support of the albion is always most welcome. Joy when we score but not so when they score etc.

Zang! Who is that, skulking on the desert! It is garry nelsons left foot, hands clutching a meaty axe! And with a spectacular howl, his voice cometh:

"I'm going to f*** you with such wanton cruelty, your reincarnation will be a scientific anomaly!!"

If that signature was one you made up yourself, it is possibly the stupidest gibberish I have ever read since '1066' contributions.
If it's paraphrased from some other author, then do please excuse me - but that must be the worst author of gibberish ever.

Personally I prefer it to Gulliver's Travels gibberish. Presumed Albion fan, he's in Crete, and he's listening to something called Carlisle 'World' live commentary - then he MOANS about the content FFS :shootself:

Cheers, Tom. My gibberish concerned the objectivity of commentators. And implying that Albion fans don't realise how fortunate they are with day-in, day-out professional commentary. And wondering what other fans prefer. Always good to hear an alternative perspective on a game though, don't you think? That's about it really.

Hey, decent of you to presume I might be an Albion fan...

The commentator is probably Derek Lacey -- my former colleague. He uses their first names because he doesn't know their surnames.

He has been known to miss a goal while scrabbling under the desk for his pen in the first half, and to get the score wrong all the way up to half time. He's a GENIUS.

Re gibberish: I suggest you re-read your own post...
