Is this ashes series the best sporting spectacle ever?

The Blue Jays winning the World Series to take the championship out of the US for the first time was pretty special for me.

Our first title since returning to Brighton.

The Play-offs which saw us promoted was fantastic.

Liverpool's run in the Champions League was phenominal.

This ashes win was pretty special too:p

I have to say though that the sportsmanship was mainly fantastic (forgetting all of the dodgy appealling) in a way that has long gone from football. The Premiershite wankers would do well to see the respect the public have for the England cricket team-genuine respect.

Maybe in the top 100. Enjoy the euphoria people.

Linekers pen V Cameroon far & away surpasses this IMO, to give you a kind of perspective.

Lets face it, Cricket is shit apart from The Ashes.

The greatest sporting show was the Sydney Olympics - simply fantastic, everything the Olympics should be.

Barcelona's was pretty good as well.

Cricket matches - Botham at Headingly against the Aussies takes a lot of beating for me.

1966 World Cup, & Henry Cooper flattening Cassius Clay (as he was then) are other highlights from my long life)

The problem about putting cricket in the top 10 of any great sporting moments is that it's still a minority sport in world terms. It's the equivalent of a Yank going on about a fantastic World Series win by the New Amsterdam Cowboys or whatever, and the rest of us not having a clue what he's on about.

Has to be global sport like boxing, football, motor racing or even dull old golf.

I doubt if anything will ever knock the Ali fights off top spot, then you're looking at Brazil in the World Cup, Jessie Owens, Michael Johnson's 19.32, Tiger Woods, Nothern Ireland's win over England :)

For pure sporting theatre - this Ashes series takes a huge amount of beating. HUGE.

This has been 25 days of sporting action with many days of anticipation in between. Tell me another sporting event that has so consumed a nation for that amount of time.
