The Christmas before the first lockdown I missed a train to hear the end of this and find out what it was being sung acapella by a choir in one of the London stations. I've binged on it many times since for the harmonies and how incredible so few voices can sound. On YouTube you'll find versions with online choirs, quartets, children's choirs, huge stages full of people and small churches and they all sound incredible.

I love it too.

It really works too. I recommended it to a friend who gets very stressed (to the extent of self harming) and she often listens to it aswell. No need to focus on it, just have it on while doing something else. Legends. Re the OP, I love my music but this really is the only track I can listen to on repeat.

I’ve always had a bit of an interest in music creating tranquility. It was interesting that academics set about finding the perfect music. It works.

Prior to that, I found R3/ClassicFM literally led to slower driving

I spent last night listening to dozens of versions of this song. Springsteen never ceases to amaze me. He has a seemingly endless back catalogue of songs that are better than pretty well anything else that's out there. He's probably written dozens that are better than this one, but it really is a beautiful love song. It's interesting to see how different artists interpret this track. The EmmyLou Harris version is truly exceptional. Personally I like to hear it infused with pedal steel, and some people have been brave enough to attempt that.

I've worshipped Jackson Browne for since 1976, but is Jackson really more talented than Bruce? Is anyone ? I'm beginning to have my doubts. Then there is the live concert experience. I've seen some incredible concerts over the last 50 years, but even Jackson at his best couldn't surpass Springsteen. I don't think anyone can. I feel blessed to have lived through the life and times of two of the best singer songwriters ever to set foot on the planet.

When I saw the title of this thread I was thinking which Springsteen song would I choose because there are so many. But as you say he has a back catalogue which is so good - for me I like his earlier songs the best from the youthful optimism to the more crninical Darkness on the Edge of Town - which is my favourite album.
