Is there anyone left in the country who STILL thinks David Beckham....

If we're not creating much, get him on the park, whip some crosses onto Heskey/Crouch.

But you can't drop Theo after that.

Have England got some kind of sponsorship deal going that say's Beckham has to appear in every match?

Somewhere over there...
I hope he gets dropped soon, Shaun Wright Phillips should be given a chance.

The only good thing I see about having Beckham in the squad is that he has experience and sets a good example to the other (younger) players.

Reckon that was it tonight - last few minutes in an England shirt.

If so, there ends the career of a tremendous servant and, if I were him, I'd have kept pulling on an England shirt as long as I was given the opportunity.

SWP and that other muppet Lennon run fast,go nowhere, and have no end product.

Mr Beckham is past it now,to be sure, but if SWP is the answer, the question needs rephrasing.

i think you keep him in the squad to pass on his undisputed experience and skill. you play him in a few friendlies and for 10 minutes in sown up games, or when your drawn and need something to break down a 11 man defense. but essentially he a spent force. noticable how much better Brown played when fixed as a right back rather then having to operate the whole 90 yards once Beckham came on.

Until such time as a player comes along who can actually cross a ball reliably I'd have Beckham in my squad every time.

Think back to big international matche when the opposition make a substitution. The kids rarely inflict the damage, it's the wise old head that can change a match. James apart, this side looks pretty well-balanced but we also now have a quality bench of Gary Neville, Richards, Owen, Gerrard, Crouch and Beckham.

i think the problem with the reliablity of Beckhams crosses is that he pumps a long diagonal ball up about every 30 seconds of England possesion. its too predictable and easy to defend against, especially if the forward on the other end is (supposed to be) Owen, Defoe or Rooney. without him we play to other strengths of the team and have different options. Walcott, or SWP or Bentley stretch defences more, they cant just sit on the edge of their box.

One good performance and result and everyone has the logic of a five-year-old.

...should be in the England team?

And if so, can you please donate your brain to medical science for the purposes of research.
No but it's becoming clear that Capello didn't have him in there for footballing reasons alone. Beckham was a fine player in his day, a fine man too, and he earnt the respect of the manager whilst at Real Madrid. I think Capello needed somebody in the squad that he could trust and who was also a known team man. Beckham is that man. I suspect we'll see him make some tough choices now and he'll need Beckham's backing behind closed doors to make it work. You could also argue that Beckham is clearly there as a mentor for some of the younger players coming through.

I didn't see the game last night (wrote it off as being crap and expecting we would lose, what do I know?!). Did Cole (J) and Walcott try to go round the outside of the fullback to whip in crosses, or were they trying to cut inside (as Walcott did for his goals)? If they are trying to cut in to support the front two then I think SWP is a superb suggestion. His crossing isn't great but he strikes me as someone who's a pretty good finisher for a winger.

No you're right, it definitely would've been a better performance with Beckham on the pitch last night pumping it aimlessly around. No width, no pace, no beating the full back.

That was not a good performance. That was an excellent performance, we were quality technically.

How do you manage to type real words as you hammer your fists aimlessly at a keyboard?
Why can't you read? it was an excellent performance but to base your views on England' play last night and completely disregard anything that happened before is pretty narrow minded
