Is there a chat forum to discuss football and Brighton & Hove Albion?

I used to contribute to the old North Stand Chat and came here in the belief there was a forum to discuss football, particularly BHA. I have no issue with the hosts or moderation, but I think I came to wrong place as, amongst relevant topics of dicussion, the following seem to be of great interest at what should be and is for me a very exciting time of the football season:

- someone got a new DVD player (that'll change our season)
- what someone did today (general knowldge round)
- how tall are you (perhaps that'll get us Falmer)
- Idi Amin (well known striker)
- Have you ever saved anyones life (I forgave someone who forgot to get me a ticket for the Hereford v BHA game...does that count?)
- Sonia Jackson, would you (is there a correlation with club revenue?)
- Castlemain XXXX (and I thought that was ther Withdean porta loo)
- How do you rate Coldplay (because that will dictate if we play 4 or 5 at the back)

So like the fan who pays his ticket and spends the entire 90 minutes with his back to the game singing into the crowd or focussed on the away stand and doesn't get a glimpse of the game I say fine whatever you want, but that's not what I want.

Take it or leave it, twickers.

Although I'd be interested to hear of a better forum for football discussion and Albion stuff.

Let us know, will you?

There you go Twickers - the father of the house has spoken the words of wisdom.

The DVD... A Brighton & Hove Albion DVD. So cross that one of your list.

*Struggles not to use Safeway's favourite word*

A person, I would guess, who is in favour of an off topic forum. A deffinate no no judging by past polls.

The off-season sees non-football threads proliferating, and we have only seen one league game intersperse and interject into those. I think many of us would agree that the immature stuff about sexual positions, rough munters, politics, bands, your first p/c, virus alerts, etc. tend to mist over the site in a pall of dullness and tediousness. But adding a moan does what?

See, the trouble I have with this moan twickers, is that you yourself have NOT actually thought up an actual football thread to counter the off-topic crap you are moaning about. This then, becomes yet another 'non football related' thread, and the solution is nowhere nearer being found.

So, howsabout you start a football discussion, and ensnare us all with the intense and imaginative content?

Cheers, bated breath etc.

On NSC for over two decades...
Er, Twickers, if you'd read the 'What did you do today' thread, you might have noticed that it was started specifically because the Albion weren't playing, which I personally found quite distracting, and I was wondering how other people were coping!!! What do you do when you can't get your Albion fix? As you will see I went along to see my local team, Woking - surely a football related story if ever there is one(and even involving an ex Albion player in Jamie Campbell!! ).

If you dont like it then piss off, I for one look forward to the banter that this website has . Look around the other sides sites have and you will realise how good this site is. Being so far away this keeps me in touch with Brighton, Not just the Team but the crazy people who love them too. Keep The Faith.Steve in Oz:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I have just checked this first page and there are 18 football related threads on it.
I even left out the Sky advert thread because it was only very loosely connected to a programme concerning football.

There's no pleasing some folks

I can see where Twickers is coming from but, for my part, I just ignore the threads in which I have no interest, such as men's sexual preferences :lolol: , cricket  , pictures of beautiful ladies ( one for good looking men is called for!), Dwayne's opinions . - however, sometimes the best policy is, if you can't beat 'em join 'em!

I also subscribe to the (Internet) Seagulls Mailing List which, because peeople can't hide behind anonymity, does not have some of the "tits" (Dwaynism!) who post on here and the majority of the content is informative and Albion related.

However, I like NSC in spite of the diversity of the content - it is often interesting and amusing and, as Yorkie said, the majority of the content is related to football. Mind you, I don't like cricket - I loathe it, but the season is nearly over

Nice one guys. Just asking the question. Interesting range of responses, some of them a little defensive, some of them very valid. As I said, like the fans who stand with their back to the game singing to the crowd is not for me, but doesn't stop me attending the match. After all, is this not about opinions and the diversity of views?

I accept fully that the audience here does not necessarily come for non-football related topics as well. However, beware. There is a risk with forums becoming so obsessed with the smaller hard core community they forget the objectives of the forum and the wider community at large. The risk there is you find you lose your main objective and subsequently a key audience fundamental to the original aims and before you know it a NSC II appears.

Secondly, if you are in the business of attracting sponsorship and online advertising revenues you need to be more insightful. Having dealt with a number of online revenue streams I can tell you it is now common for client to receive refunds where adbnormal click thru rates were detected on site advertising and the turnover of advertisers high where the demographic of the online community was not what is was professed to be.

Whatever you learn from this question, NEVER tell your community or a contributing member to piss off, except perhaps non-constructive/destructive constributors. You'll pay a severe price in reputation and loyalty if you let yourself believe an online prescence is anything more than community or the sum of its parts. I don't think it was meant, but I never want to see that again. This is much better than that. Keep it up, keep it Albion.

I've just re-read the thread to check and I can't believe a scandalous, nay outright disgusting, lack of of truth. C.O. called Jamie Campbell a footballer. Tsk.

You are lucky mate.

A few weeks ago the first page contained threads about how many times do you masturbate, is my ex girlfriend a slut, do you have brown wings etc etc.

The thing that puts NSC in a class of its own, twickers, is that "main objectives" don't stifle the diversity of the place.

With the season underway there will be plenty of topics to interest even the most bobble-hatted correspondent. But the "off topic" stuff will still sit happily alongside them. Because that's what most NSC users want from the place and what makes the place what it is.

I take your point about "NSCII" but there have been plenty of unsuccessful pretenders to that throne over the years. Which is a shame because I suspect that what people want from an alternative is a proper alternative. Not a half-hearted version of NSC with all the competitive crap and bitchin' that goes with it.

Having said that, there are other, very good places out there which ARE different and which might suit your needs better.

NSC is what is is. Sometimes crap, mostly classic but always a hell of a lot more than just a bog standard footy message board!
